It was good before, but with the addition over time of all those new channels (quest, dave, blaze, the sony's, talking pictures (love those old UK b\w detective films) and more), it's become really great to have reception.
 
The thread should be renamed to "Adding salt to the wounds of the peasants that cannot receive the UK spotbeams" lol
 
Indeed. And this despite loads of know-alls across various Forums telling us these things (especially UKTV) just wouldn't ever go FTA!

All we need now is divine providence to restore Vintage TV.

Oh, and the HD versions of ITV 2 3 & 4.
 
...and of course immensely thankful towards freesat for constant reminders about the future, all these "over 50's funeral protection plan" ads ;O)

What happened with Retro Movies channel on 11464H ? Its name still appears as it has to be but the EPG shows Nollywood movies, 28E is the only position probably in the world that airs so many channels especially dedicated to the classic and vintage movies and series fans , the reason why is my favourite position 28E - somewhere else you would not be able to catch Dick Tracy series or Tales from the darkside….
 
Retro Movies is a "filler channel" used to keep a Sky UK epg slot active whilst its sale is negotiated. It comes and goes. It transmits out of copyright materials so is very cheap to run. I think its run by Canis Media who are epg slot brokers.

(Sky UK have very strict rules on epg usage - anything that goes off air for a month or so is nullified - and seeing as the epg slot is oftyen the most valuable asset of a bankrupt tv channel its worth keeping active by the administrators!)

It will reappear when they have another slot to sell :)
 
From the past 10 years I noticed something really odd - several channels with similar contain as Retro Movies were renamed and all of them were broadcasting Sherlock Holmes series from the 50s, Dick Tracy and Flash Gordon. As you say their duration on-air was quite short until the time for the next channel renamed but with the same contain comes on..
 
More Canis Media epg filler channels. Dozens of channels have ceased broadcasting ver the last decade - and many of them have used Canis to sell the valuable epg slots.

More than 30 channels have ceased broadcasting in 2018 alone (although this does include the temporary red button services used for Wimbledon tennis every year)
