My Satellite Setup
Humax HDR1100S Freesat Recorder. Octagon UHD satellite box with Gibertini 1m motorised dish. Triax TD78 for Freesat. Triax TD64 for Freesat to 3 rooms. 2 Panasonic Freeview+ HD recorders.

HI EVERYONE!

Well I am having a doozy of a time with my Humax Freesat recorder. I switched it on this morning to find that all the recordings I had set it for had not been done. Also there was no signal being received. Yet, it my TV which has a connection to the dish was working. I assumed the LNB was shot so changed it to an Inverto quad output black....just the same. I even tried around three of my spare Freesat units and they were the same, too. I am totally puzzled. Could the Inverto Black be faulty maybe? Or could it be the cables? There was no sign of water ingress. HELP!
 
Attach the cable going to your TV into the Humax. If the Humax ist still not working your TV either has no DVB-S/S2 tuner or the tuner of your Humax is broken.
 
I tried two of my spare Humax recorders and it was the same.
 
FWIW with my (non-recording) Freesat Humax Foxsat, if I use an IBU LNB I have to use an attenuator - the IBU is too 'loud' for the Humax's tuner.
 
This is a very perplexing issue! I will need to fully investigate and try another receiver then check each input individually.
 
Some years back I had several Inverto Black Ultras on large IRS installations, but after trouble on a couple, I replaced all of them gradually with more standard Triax Quattro LNBs. I'd also had a problem with crosstalk on a quad, so stopped using them altogether. Did you try taking the feed off the TV when testing the Humax and also trying the other feeds on the TV if they are in the same location?
 
I have just tried a non-recording Sky HD box on each input.....and they work! It seems the TV satellite input can handle it along with the Sky HD box. So.......could it actually be too much signal? I'm certainly thinking that now. Luckily, I have a few quad output LNB's so I may try a GT-Sat quad as I have always had success with those. Blimey! If I need to buy attenuators, what strength would I need to knock the signal down? 3db, 6db or greater?

Try your other LNBs first. I used a variable attenuator like this:

You could try extending the cable with around 20m extra on the reel before spending on an attenuator.
 
WOW! 20m of cable? That's not viable I'm afraid but I suppose I could buy a couple of those variable attenuators. I'll try a different LNB.
 
You could try with 10m first, but attenuation at 1750MHz would/could be ineffectual (4-8 dB )
 
When the weather improves then I'll swap out the Inverto Black LNB.
 
There was a slight break in the weather today so I changed the Inverto quad for a GT Sat quad LNB. My Humax tuner is totally FUBAR. I have put another Humax in its place and all is working well. Resetting the boxes as I tried them all did the trick to treat it as a new install (they are a bit out of date). Anyway the saga is at an end and I've learned quite a lot. Frustrating, but interesting at the same time! Thanks for the advice peeps.
