Many smart meters are subject recent changes, charged using your own electricity to power them (and provide the in/outgoing signals)

Keep a careful eye on the type installed, keep taking your own readings.

A more suspicious mind might think supplier broadband networks at ground level are about to spring forth.

LBC 1152 dropped over to a retune loop mid morning yesterday & was turned off completely arond 1500uk. 1152 AM is no longer in use in the UK as LBC was the last transmitter using it.
 
1260KHz ex Marcher Sound will shut down at the end of February.

Ofcom have approved Talksport shutting down 7 of their MW relays in the Spring

  • 1107KHz Duxhurst (Surrey)
  • 1089KHz Lisnagarvey (County Antrim, Northern Ireland)
  • 1107KHz Lydd (Kent)

Also 5Live from Bexhill tx is under sentence of death as Arqiva have sold the tx site for redevelopment
 
Slightly off topic, the road adjacent to this house has just had a box installed on the nearest telegraph pole.

By coincidence there is no longer any reception of Radio Caroline (648) in the car until I have driven out into the main road some 500m away.

Is Ofcom likely to work on a complant over AM interference ?

What kind of box? With the move to full fibre, you'd think there'd be less RF noise.

I could be wrong but is this the reason full fibre coming from poles leads to landlines being cut at the same time ?

I have two customers that have lost the ability to call out after the 'free' upgrade New Year offer (different providers but Openreach carrying out the work)

If you move (upgrade) to full fibre you also need to take out an additional VoIP service if you want to use a landline phone as the old copper line is switched off. Some ISPs offer a voice option, some don't. I use Andrews & Arnold VoIP which costs £1.56/month as I didn't want it tied to my ISP.

Yup when we moved over to fttp about 15 months ago it was made quite clear that the old copper service was to be discontinued immediately. SWMBO was working from home that day & said it went off about half an hour after the OR guys had installed the fibre.

Seeing as we hadnt had a phone connected to it for years (it was only used for the broadband) I didnt bother getting a voip service.
 
It looks like Openreach fail to notify the vulnerable / long term BT subscribers) that their emergency cord line won't work at the point they fit the free upgrade.

Chances are they were notified but a lack of technical understanding or lack of reading the info packs.......

Nope no going back - no point anyway seeing as the entire copper system will be turned off in the not too distant future. The sale of redundant local telephone exchanges has already started up here - Ive spotted a planning application to turn one into a short let holiday accomodation in the last couple of weeks :D

Quite possibly a repeater station rather than a exchange. Openreach not long ago turned off the first PSTN exchange down south..
 
Well its been predicted but its finally been confirmed - 198kHz Radio 4 Longwave will be shut down at 0100BST on 27th June 2026. Droitwich, Burghead & Westerglen are the tx's that will be falling silent.
 
BBC Five Live will be shutting down 2 relay stations on 31st July

693kHz Folkestone
909kHz Redruth.
