Astra 2F: Central & East Europe Discussion

12207 V very weak today (Sky News SD)

why I have 2F Europe TP-s, fec is different but same dB?

12285V fec 2/3 7.0dB
12207V fec 5/6 7.0dB
12246V fec 8/9 7.0dB

today I see stronger signal on 12207 V 9.5dB
12285V 9.5dB
12246V 8.7dB

very weak signals on UK beam (bbc 1234,even SD) today in Carcassonne south france
I thought of sand clouds...
or is it the hot sun cooking my lnb?
Or just the seasonal low.
Or do I need to tweak my dish pointing?
Widebeam is still strictly equal to its permanent value.

Never seen so many signal drops as this year. The usual signal drop in the beginning of Spring okay, but this is year is dramatic, signal keeps dropping, kinda worrying.

i must add, when night comes,SD signals climb up to 70% ,against 75% during winter.
They break up when sun is high... 12 noon more or less ,and resume after 7PM.
Very clear sky,and dry air. Normal pressure levels.

Is there any truth in the idea that as satellites age, the solar cells deteriorate so transponder power may be reduced? still, the 28.2 satellites don't seem to be operating at full capacity as some transponders are switched off

Is the signal better on cloudy/overcast days?

10:20 morning here i just checked:
bbc SD 10773 and 10818 out,no signal.
The 12421(bbc news hd) just utters a few moving sqares in colour...
channel 4 sd does the same

Check alignment & try a different LNB.

surprise,at 12:50 CET bbc sd came to normal (Quality65% versusa ususal 70/signal 85%,very watchable...)
as if they changed the transmitter's batteries!!

regarding LNB,my level on all other frequencies remain unchanged...
and it just came by itself to normal...
Would be good to know what Alistair in Milano,Italy sees!

BBC SD & HD:South france
levels normal today,sd at 70%;no hd,will come back in september as usual...so it seems

Can I ask you what is the reason for a so large differences? From lock in the winter to unlock in the summer...... I don't know. Thanks.

the UK beam targets the UK.
Where I am is therefore outside the target ,meaning we get overspill signal.
If it works, fine. If it doesn 't ,then we have to wait for better days!
Seems the variation is seasonal, -strong signals in the cold season,
- weaker ones in the hot season (end May to aug/sept more or less)
AND, my LNB should wear a well-fitted hat when the sun is high...

My UK beam reception of bbc SD back to normal.
Seems like my lnb has been momentarily overheated at precise times, when pixellisation came
It definitely needs a cover of some sort!

Yes I know that. Obviously you are out of beam, but this is not enough to justify a so big difference between summer and winter in my opinion. I suspect the problem could be in the LNB. As you know, every LNB work better in the cold season because the electronic inside it is cold too, but if you have such differences it could be that some component is drifting having perfornamce issues during hotter and sunny days. Did you check a different LNB?

Then,I think I had an issue with contacts.
I re-stitched the cable yesterday ,re- fastened the connection to the receiver...
and got back the usual reception without the 10am to 2 pm break up,which I attributed to "too much sun"..;
when it now seems to be "too sloppy connections" .End of story for now.
So, Schwaiger is definitely innocent.

Still BBC3sd ,seems much weaker ,the 10818 transponder, compared to 10773.
Works fine when bbc3 is on (after 7pm),very weak when it isn t...which is fine since I do not need childrens programmes!
