the use of the official card in a device other than the approved receiver is not illegal:
I witnessed a trial between Viaccess and Powercam and the courts acquitted Powercam.
What would be illegal would be to operate in emulation mode.
the dialogue between card and receiver is based on the Eurocrypt protocol which is royalty-free.

Try to call Fransat and give your card number to see what's happen in a few minutes after, if it's legal ! You forget something, called "licence" !

I will not have committed a criminal offence if I called Fransat and explained what I was doing.
