Made an offer on the house with this potential new home for my dishes :)

Western facing garden with clear views to the west and to at least 42e and potentially to 57e on the eastern side.
 
Looks nice and open, and hopefully it's not an area where they're planning to build a lot of new houses;)
It used to look like that, where I now live, 10-20 years ago, now there are very few fields left, and two more large farm fields now have at least 400 houses being built, some of which are now completed.
I moved here because of the open, South facing, garden, that allowed me to install my 1.2M channel master on a ground mount.
I also hope that your offer is accepted, and it's an area where they wont build a load of new houses.

Indeed. We were told that it was owned by a farmer and he keeps sheep, cows and horses there on a rotating basis. So let's hope that he doesn't decide to sell!

But it was either this or an area which was already built up....

I am pondering whether to apply for a planning permission for the dish. Other than the cows, the only other souls that would see the dish is, at max, three neighbours. If they have no complaints about me putting the dish up, then what's the point of spending nerves and money on PP? Or better be safe than sorry?
 
Can I ask where you sourced the arms, might come in handy for someone one day.
 
Given where it's located, I wouldn't bother, with planning permission, and hopefully, by the time any new houses are built, if ever, you will have passed the limit.
Just make sure you have proof of when it was put up, so that in a number of years, if they build any new houses, and someone complains, you are able to keep the dish there.

I ordered it from SSS but the package came from Eurosat, so I'd be tempted to go to them direct next time.

Yes, that has crossed my mind... still nervous, though! Who knows... maybe I'll have idiot neighbours. Better speak to them before I buy the house!

True. But there's no escaping a sensible neighbour having to sell to an idiot.
So on one hand you can be a little more safe, on the other - there are no guarantees in life.
If you find the otherwise perfect house - buy it.
Probably should look into that shed-design discussed elsewhere, if the need arises.
As the Marines say - adapt, improvise, k*ck b*tt!
 
Well the neighbours are sane - they are someone my in-laws know! So that's a plus. A minus is that they told us a planning officer lives a few doors down and keeps an eye on what goes on on the farm fields to ensure no development is in the works. Where the dish would, he/she would never see it but might be wise to have a chat with them!
 
Could you not slip the planning officer a little gift in a brown envelope,i had to do it back in 2009 for my 2.4m dish.
Within five days i had planning permission.
 
Very true but what can one do.
 
Well, the seller was a bit er... difficult but in the end we reached a compromise deal :)

Replaced the bearings and bolts with new INOX ones. Very tough but fluid, smooth movement of the mount. Now need to obtain some inox angle iron to make up the frame that will sit between the dish and the mount. This will have an actuator at the top for Y axis control (declination).

Great Alex:), I would put the nut/bolts the other way round, then if they do come lose they wont fall out, probably me being over cautious but best safe than sorry:).
 
Good point. I'll need to check that there's enough clearance between the bolt and the rotating mount when at the extremes.
