My car has a MW FM and DAB digital radio in it, I have to say it is completely and utterly useless in the NW of England, at home we can pick up some but not all DAB channels

I use a little portable DAB radio in the van, works OK down here, but on further travels it loses signal regularly.

A number of people with the same vehicle as mine have mentioned the inbuilt window antenna strips are utterly useless at pulling in DAB signals.

The technology behind the reception of DAB on the move appears to be almost as poor as the bit rates.

I had a hire car with a dab radio in it for a week recently. The one station I actually wanted to listen to (Planet Rock) isnt carried anywhere near here, so I ended up listening to the Now70s station. It was ok but the lack of channels round here certainly would dissuade me from investing in a dab system. Ive reverted to my mp3s in the car :D

MP3?

I thought you'd favour an Eight-Track :D

Vinyl records are Ross' favoured source of music I would think.

Nah - I binned all my vinyl when we moved house. It was all horrendously worn and scratched. Give me cds anytime. :D

And Ross even drives the same car!

The Mackems have finally got their own BBC Sunderland station on DAB 11C, Looks to be sharing bandwidth with BBC Newcastle as both are now 64kbps. I can't fathom why they didn't just change BBC Newcastle to BBC Tyne & Wear.

PS in car DAB reception can be affected by interference from switch mode USB adapters used for phone chargers & dashcams. Since changing to 7805 linear voltage regulators to power my dashcams reception is greatly improved.
