Earthquake detection and predictions

I'm not too worried about the San Andreas, (San Francisco's problem) it's the Cascadia fault I'm worried about. If that one goes with a big one then the West coast is toast.
 
They all meet at the triple junction off the coast of Pretolia California, the San Andreas stops there the Cascadia starts there, the San Andreas is a strike slip fault, the Cascadia is a suduction fault, it's the on that could/will trigger the big one.

Funny thing about the San Andreas is that in several million years LA will be north of San Francisco.

And yes a big one on the Cascadia could trigger one further down.

Now Nevada is having some swarms, these are out in the desert, but inline with the Long Valley Caldera complex, hope it's nothing to worry about.

The film "Tremors" is set in the small desert town of Perfection, Nevada. Are we sure it's not the worms in action?

I'd say no to the fracking as there's no oil wells to do that to or for, and as far as the worms, it's possible as the Nevada test site (area 51) is just to the South East from Tonopah, there's also a weapons range close by, they destroy the old bombs and other stuff, we can on a clear day hear the big booooooms from them.

The Long Valley Caldera is due west from them, if the tectonic plates have moved that far it could be a new one popping up. (I hope not)
 
Everyone got a bit concerned about these quakes until they were informed that they were on a spreading center and not on the subduction fault.

It could trigger something but that's a flip of a coin.

Now it looks like Silver Springs Nevada is heating up, there is a bunch of hot springs and thermal steam well's in this area, I wonder whats going on?

This is a bit un-nerving, Soda Lakes is considered to be what is called a Marr type volcano, last erupted about 6,000 years ago.


Right where these quakes are occurring.

No the soda lake area I'm talking about is in Nevada about 30 miles east of Carson city, right where the silver springs earthquake are happening.

Well, the planet hasn't had a major earthquake for almost a month, I would suspect the crust is rather stressed everywhere.
 
Earthquakes in Scotland are not particularly unusual - there is the Great Glen fault running diagonally across the Highlands. However earthquakes tend to be small (in the range around 3) so nothing more than door rattlers.

I just caught an NHK News report about 2 mag 5 earthquakles that hit near Nagano overnight - so far minimal damage reported
