The BBC - Disney tie up to make Dr Who suitable for a new woke generation has as expected by many of us older folks has been a ratings disaster both in the UK & in the US. So much so Disney has walked away from the deal & Nu Who is now off air until the 2026 Christmas special.

I got no further than about fifteen minutes of one episode and had to change channel. An absolute car crash, the article below digs out the reasoning.

The four episodes of 'The Celestial Toymaker' are now available for viewing free of charge (in the UK) on the BBC iPlayer. Previously they could only be watched on DVD and Blu-ray when they were released in 2023. Only the fourth episode is original, the first three are lost and have been recreated using animation, the style of which can best be described as challenging!

This is one of the Who antagonists that I vividly remember watching first time around and I ached for the Celestial Toymaker to make a reappearance for years afterwards.

So many years of waiting then the CT returns in barmy rubbish posing as a Doctor Who story...

Family Guy / American Dad / Archer style animation would be much better than that crap. It really does spoil a good story.

Nobody will ever know just how much RTD has screwed upthe franchise.

“We tried to get a Doctor Who crossover [with Star Trek]. We really tried. I didn’t put this in the book, it was kind of embargoed at the time and so I didn’t talk about it… They were dying to do it. Actually, they’ve started talking about it. [SNW co-showrunner] Akiva Goldsman mentioned it in an interview the other day. We were dying to do it. It reached the point where me and [fellow Doctor Who writer] Steven Moffat had tickets booked to go to LA to go to the writers room to try to work out how to do it.”

Ever seen the Gary Seven spin-off, thought not and that was almost 50 years ago.
