I've just received two packages of Cat5E cable, allegedly 300 metres each, though one is decidedly lighter than the other.

Rather than pull them out of the boxes they came in - no reel - and walk up and down the garden with a measuring stick can somebody offer an approximate weight per 100m (or 1km ) so I can challenge the 'lighter' supplier.

Last time I dealt with this stuff it was about 3kgs per 100m if it helps.

I see about 34 pounds per 1000 feet on most CAT 5E spec's I run across. Or 15.42 Kilograms at approximately 300 metres of cable.

So you should be around 15 Kg for the cable, plus the box/container weight.

That does sound excessively heavy for the stuff.

Is the cable you work with specified for outdoor use ?
 
Yes and it's shielded.
