Hi

I have a 80cm satellite and a sky HD box which I use when caravaning. I’m in France at moment and did have it working but have moved site and it now isn’t working. I think it is a power issue as I’ve a digital sat meter and it is showing almost full signal. I have had the sky box not work before as it’s been plugged into a 4 block adapter then changed to main plug socket and the signal came through. My question is, if the sky box is plugged in can it have issues powering the LNB? I know my sat dish has signal and cable is working.

Any advice appreciated.

Are you sure you have not got the dish pointed at the wrong satellite? This will show up as 'No Signal' on a Sky box.

Does the signal level degrade when you move the dish /caravan ?

There are storms in Europe at the moment so you might not get signal all the time.

No, I have a good signal. I have a professional sat meter that I use to align dish so it is definitely picking up Astra. The guy next to me has a dish and is picking up the signal fine. It’s lovely weather here now. I am convinced it is to do with the power on the sky HD box but don’t have a multi meter with me to check

Try your box on his dish .

If you do not have access right now to a multi-meter you can use a 12 volt automotive light bulb to test the receiver.

If you know the polarity of the transponders on the satellite your trying for then switch to a channel that is on a vertical one, this will give a +13 volts on the receiver's LNB connection, a small piece of wire can be used at the "F" connector to connect to the light bulb's center pin (or one of the pins) the other side of the bulb can be touched to the chassis of the receiver. (UN-painted part)

If the bulb lights it's working.

LNB power has somehow not switched itself off in the menu?

Got it... was a short circuit on the lnb so basically the end of the f connector was shorting so refitted. Interestingly it doesn’t work if I have too much on in the Caravan so I think there are some issues with the psu in the sky box but will test properly when home. Thanks for the help

Glad you found the problem, and thanks for reporting back with how you fixed it, it may help others.
