Life With A DM8000

I was coming to that conclusion Replay, as that was my problem (green screen). Any ideas on which skin to use, or even a different image?

Llew

Tried other skins on Nabilo with no success.
Some people managed to burn with Gemini² Project 4.1., but I like Nabilo and would try harder..for now.

Right guys, I'm on nabilo but in Barry Allen on SD. I too got the green screen of death, I'm installing GP2 now.

Hi. little pictures of DM8000s

Does anyone have a youtube vid of a dm8000 in action.

Rather than a sales pitch vid, I would like to see one concentrating on how good the image firmware has got from a usability point of view, also EPG facilities etc, primarily for UK TV.

I'd be interested in viewing a youtube video too please.

Hello people!

BM16CC, et al,
did you all solve the dvd burning issue? Update's please?

Does the Sony AD-7670S DVD slot loading drive fit in perfectly to the aperture? I ask as the description says it is a slimline product.
http://www.dabs.com/products/optiarc--sony-nec--8x-slimline-black-bare-slot-sata-5J89.html

Also looking at the HDD, Western Gate that you mentioned, it seems there is a newer one out now:
Western Digital WD10EADS Caviar Green 1tb SATAII 32Mb Cache 3.5 Inch Green Power OEM Internal Hard Drive

Dabs: _http://www.dabs.com/products/western-digital-caviar-1tb---up-to--7200rpm-32mb-s300-5C3Y.html?q=1tb

Amazon: _http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001IEZX3G/ref=s9_simz_gw_s0_p23_t3?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=09XS4Q1SWJGT8DD3XGCE&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294

Amazon show the above as being a newer model to the one that you have selected (time has passed I guess!)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Dig...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249310030&sr=1-4

Is the newer model likely to have the same "intelli" tech details? (I would've thought so, but doesn't state it)

Did you guys consider a 1.5tb HDD?
such as:
_http://www.dabs.com/products/western-digital-1-5tb-caviar-green-sata-300-5400rpm-32mb-5JPW.html?q=1.5tb

I read on another forum of someone using a Seagate, how do these compare to the Western Digital green ones?

Dabs: _http://www.dabs.com/products/seagate-1-5tb-barracuda-7200rpm-sata-300-32mb-56WJ.html?q=1.5tb

Amazon: _http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seagate-OEM-Barracuda-7200-11-Internal/dp/B001IKKCLI/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1249310030&sr=1-4

BTW, I just placed my order for the DM8000 now, should get it on Wednesday!!!
Need to sort out a motorised dish now too... (likely 85cm)

Cheers,
Xstyle

...and looking at the HDD's, I have read through this site:

_http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/1.5tb-hdd-caviar,2331.html[/url]

and opted for the Western Gate 1.5tb HDD WD15EADS
The other option was a Seagate Barracuda 1.5tb, but the WD's are supposed to be better for storage.

Hiya, yes it does the job perfectly.

(more than can be said about the actual DM though!! ... but those are issues I need to sort myself)

I do a little mod in the mount of disc and up the fixation 15mm.

Gidday Guys.

Just took possesion of my Dm8000 way downunder here in New Zealand.
I was led to believe that the Dm8000 was only in support for having a Max of Two Satellite DVBS2 Tuners installed, with the other Two Slots having to be DVS T or C Tuners.
Looking at the posting above i see that there was a 3rd DVBS2 Tuner added.
Is this so ??..
Inititially i understood that the Dm8000 would support 4x Satellite Tuners, but was told by our Australasian DM Agent that they Didnt.

Correct me if i'm wrong..

Also, What Image are you finding most Preferable ?
I'm Currently using Gemini 4.5 running NDS.

Will be good to hear from other Dreamers..

Cheers:

Ren

The 2 spare slots can accept any combination of tuner. I have proved it and it works just fine. Best image at the moment is Nabilosat Blackhole v0.12.

Gidday B16MCC.

Thanks for the reply.
Also, thanks for confirming multiple use of DVB S Tuners, that was really what i wanted to hear.
As far as images go, i find that i prefer Gemini.. Its General GUI and layout seems more swish than that of Nobilo.
Although, If i was able to load on the Skin Kerni-HD1 onto Nobilo, it would probably look the same.

In your opinion, why do you like Nobilo ?.. Is it the support for Epg etc ?.

Cheers

Ren

Many thanks B16MCC for the info on the hard drive and dvd. I looked at getting them when I bought the DM 8000 but I could not find any info on the sleers website to say what they were. Just looking for somewhere to buy a couple of extra tuners.

i should filter out any threads on the 8000 or i'll end up being 900quids poorer lol

excellent review mate, and well done on your setup
now don't make me drool no more :p

Do you still need to use that bracket for the dvd drive if you got a sata drive?

Hello Guys,
I currently own a DM800S-HD Clone I have to flash it once every 3 months it crashes a lot and I have tried loads of images.
I am thinking to buy Genuine DM8000 HD but my question is will it crash a lot and will I have issues recording stuff on the internal HD as the only reason I am going for DM8000 HD is I am sick and tired of green screen(crash logs) flashing the image again and again, mounting the HD again & again, restarting the DB as it will not pick up the HD or USB.

Genuine DMs are grossly overpriced. Why not save some cash and go for something like Vu+ Uno (you can add a dual tuner to that soon)? Around £250 and I have been running the same version VIX for a good few months now with no issues whatsoever.

But, just to give answer - DM8000 is still state of the art receiver, works perfectly with internal hard drive, operates with up to 4 internal tuners etc. And no green screens, OK there may be some if you do something very wrong.

Don't forget that they all (the Vu range, Extrend, ClarkTech, DMs) share the same base software - Enigma2. So getting a new receiver doesn't mean you won't get green screens. On my old DM800 clone on an OpenPli image was really rather stable and I certainly didn't have to reflash it every few months because of crashes. Maybe you have a hardware issue but it's difficult to say without crash logs etc.
