Some people have tried to make a dish at home, which requires a bit on ingenuity.
I found this video from someone trying to make some flat dish similar to an offset dish or a squarial.
Even though the design cannot work well in my opinion, he does get some signal on a satellite meter.
The reason it cannot work well is that the travel time of the waves to the LNB is not the same.
Therefore some signals will destructively interfere, e.g., whenever the difference in travel distance is an odd multiple of approximately
1.4cm for KU Band. Still the concept might work if the mirrors are not placed at equal distances but at well computed ones, but it
would also limit the bandwidth of the dish. It is still food for thought....
The same guy also has another system for making prime focus dishes. That one may actually work, but it requires some patience.
