The much awaited Manhattan Freesat S4-R Freesat PVR is about to arrive in all the usual shops.

Amazon, Hughes etc are accepting pre-orders for the 500GB Version for delivery mid-May, with 1TB and 2TB models to follow a little later.

I believe it has the look and feel of their popular Freeview Recorder.

It can accomodate Universal or Wideband LNBs and, with the latter, can potentially record up to 4 programmes simultaneously.

Whilst my trusty first generation Humax PVR is still going strong, I'm sorely tempted to be an early adopter of the Manhattan if I xan rustle up 220 sovs.

Might sell the Humax on as I know lots of people have nostalgia for them
 
Given that Astra 2 satellites are likely to be going south over the next few years, I am surprised that they are still advertising satellite receivers in the UK.
 
I'm guessing it's a replacement in the market the for the much derided Arris box, different brand I know.

True - I've already decided to repurpose it in our upstairs lounge (which is, to a degree, a contradiction in terms as our property is classed as a bungalow! But I know what I mean. I think).
 
Pfft. Anazon Delivery estimate now 15 May - 8 Jun

Hughes claim to have them actually in stock for early delivery, but no mention of them at Argos, Currys etc. as yet.
 
Further: Have cancelled Amazon order as Hughes (and Richer Sounds) have further stock - mine should now be delivered from Highes on Monday.
 
Argos will have them in some stores from Monday.
 
Deep joy - DPD will be delivering in an hour or two.

So, I dug out the "Sky Q" LNB from my spares box and discovered that the arm of my ancient Zone 1 dish was marginally oversized for the clip-on LNB bracket. Reverted to Plan A and simply swopped the old Universal Twin out in order to re-use the old style plug-in adapter.

But no - again the dimensions of the LNB necks are slightly different so a couple of turns of tape around the neck of the Wideband LNB sorted that.

All I need now is the S4-R ....... :cool:

Well, I've been playing with it - sorry, "exhaustively testing" all afternoon and cannot fault it.

Quick to boot up, snappy Channel change, instinctive controls, simple recording (both of current programme and scheduled stuff), minimal selection of Apps (which is a good thing, IMHO!).

Oh, and programmable buttons for controlling TV, Source etc.
 
I like the idea it can take any LNB (standard/SkyQ/SCR) and automatically configure the right setup. That sounds very handy for the average buyer who just wants to plug in a new box and not worry about what's on the other end of the cable, especially if they are in a rental or on a shared system.

Yes - but of course a standard LNB would only permit two (most of the time) simultaneous recordings.

We need the possibility of four as the stuff we like all seems to be on at the same time when we're out, and SWMBO hasn't quite got to grips with Catch-Up Apps yet!
 
Any idea if it has a single standard LNB feed mode?

Thanks, I missed that on their website. It was bedroom setups that I was thinking of.

Seems like it'll take almost any signal you can give it. I wonder if it'll handle an old Marconi Blue Cap LNB :-rofl2

Just ploughing through the final recordings on my Humax, but am still undecided as to whether to keep it or to pass on to a new home. Whilst they were popular, they don't fetch much on eBay, so I might go all philanthropic and offer it gratis for local collection.
