Well my goldfinches have been back a couple of weeks now, although one is extremely timid but there is no sign of a charm nearby, only plenty of magpies filling their bellies on the fat balls until the squirrel bullies them off the feeder
Sorry about the picture quality, my camera is rather poorly (well the focus mechanism is) after being dropped in the summer whilst open and also getting wet last week in Cumbria

I think my robin is really cute and very tame, it is now almost sitting on my finger when I am refilling the feeder

Got its winter's Puffa jacket on :)

Knew this Eurasian or Northern Sparrowhawk was in the area as I watched it hovering above our garden in July, watching for lunch, I am please it graced us with its presence at the bottom of the garden, shame it would not face me though, magnificent birds

We have regular Sparrowhawk visits ..... they know where our Bird table is and do enjoy a nice lunch.

Of small garden birds!

One is so bold it happily sits on the edge of our Bird Bath and stares unflinchingly at me when I look out of the window. We're talking no more than eight feet away.

We have a Jay who seems to have adopted our little garden this year, seems he loves the regular supply of peanuts.:)Jay-peanuts-P1021313.webp

Spent a couple of hours twitching yesterday.

Best of the sightings was this Black Swan

Superb! Have summited Blencathra in the snow. Magical.

Got a week in the Lakes booked for mid-March.

Fabulous day out walking up, down and around Roseberry Topping

Looks great, I have not been up there for over 30 years.

Tricky going up on the north side as the paths were really icy. Mind you, I only came a cropper coming down - base over apex ending up sitting in the mud!

OK, what is it ? Large enough for the oven and the branch is definitely weighed down by the bird. Almost black tail feathers, white streaks on wings and to each side of the head, but looks like a big parrot or macaw from the shape of the beak. All I've seen to date here are green (and a couple of red/orange) parakeets.

Wingspan would have been about 4' when it eventually flew off, it really was a large one.
