Help Required Octagon fs8008 What firmware

the octagon will most likely come with OpenATV image without DEFINE, both mine did. I soon put OpenVIX on (my image of choice) - but lets not forget E2 images are all VERY MUCH the same - just different skins

lets also not forget the DEFINE image is an option on the 8008 and its NON E2 - so perfect for the E2 haters
That will be me then for starters. :D

the only time i use the DEFINE image is for the WEBTV addon - has some great IPTV goodies - "Wentworth" for one.
i dont use DEFINE for the Sat stuff, I switch to VIX for satellite TV
i love Enigma2 - have done for years.

I loathe it. I will never have another E2 receiver, I ve had 2 and both have driven me crazy with their illogical, over complicated operating systems. The first one I had I happily threw into a recycling skip at the local municipal tip :-rofl2

id rather have too many options, than too few.
enigma2 is totally flexible - why do you want to be constrained by closed source

I don’t think it should be but I’ve never tried it on this receiver.

The biggest problem would be, where do I find the Open atv not the nightly version and where would I find the Define software. Difficult to install if you don’t know where it exists.

you can manually download BUT the best option in my opinion is to run RECOVERY MODE

make sure you have ethernet cable in the sat - using DHCP from router. (use long network cable from router to satbox)

turn box off, ensure network cable is a working "internet" cable - power on, while holding in the front button

once in recovery mode, choose install from network (cant remember exact wording) - from there you can pick and choose from several E2 images and DEFINE, which you can install into any of the 4 slots.

this really isnt difficult once you know about the recovery menu

You say you can manually download it BUT where from. ??
Perhaps I’m not going to get an answer, but would like to know.

i dont know why you wouldnt want a nightly build tho - there normally always stable

whos everyone - subjective advice.

well not everyone in the world as I’m sure you know but most people who have responded to me.

I can see Ozumo advised against it, but thats one persons opinion, i'm giving you mine. I say nightly's are fine.

I have two Octagon SF8008 - love them - one runs openatv with wooshbuild and the other runs openvix - never had an issue.

however, I do not bother updating for the sake of upgrading tho, i only update if i need to rebuild, or if a new feature is out that i might want (very rare)

You sir, are worrying far too much!

Yes, but I have asked similar questions elsewhere, and I’m not talking about forums. Just trying to learn from feedback.

Is there any particular reason why you want an SF8008 over an SX88+? The SX87/88+/88 4K/89 run the easy to use Define OS & multistream works perfectly fine on them.

Absolutely nothing. I have simply heard more people talking about the 8008. What is the difference please, may be an interesting direction.

With the SF8008 you can have twin satellite tuners, 4K, tune transponders with very low symbol rates, and run Enigma 2 operating systems such as OpenATV. For general viewing of FTA television there's no great advantage.

The SX87/88+/89 are HD only, only run the Define OS and are cheaper. The price difference isn't huge between the SX88 4K and the SF8008.
