Phono Stage noise on my amp

Yeah, I think so too - although my efforts at grounding have taken the noise level down a little, so I'll have to live with it for a year until I can justify a new amp after spending on the turntable.
that's life I guess.

Clutching at straws..... is it possible that there's some resistance (possible due to corrosion) between the ground of the input panel and amps main earth point? Your experiments unplugging the left channel and connecting the cable outer to the earth point make me very suspicious.
