Are you risking downloading it?

Are you risking downloading it?

It's not just for the model on the thread title, it covers four models.
Downloaded & ran without issues

I did the upgrade yesterday, too.

No issues. I wonder if it is possible to hack the installer to upgrade the model, i.e. transform the HD Ranger 50 SE into a HD Ranger+, which has a few more functions (spectogram, Echo measurement, etc.).

Not got a glass on mine, but it does leave the screen vulnerable and I have a circle of dead pixels, but fortunately can still see what I need to and it is great even in the brightest conditions.

Only just seen this post rolf, my two HD Ranger+ meters have the very same circle of dead pixels in the top right part of the screen.
Had one of them dismantled today to investigate further and document with images and info on the screens and also battery pack info and sizes - did a quick google for a screen replacement for a HD Ranger+ but nothing found .. i dare not ring Promax UK :)
**Edit - fresh search came up with this

Interesting find John. I have a couple of thin lines of pixels missing on my screen, but not a problem enough in my general use.

I would consider replacing the screen if I was confident enough, but my hands often fail me in intricate work. I can't even unscrew a jam jar these days without something to grip it with :(

I'm not far behind you chap , falling apart mentally and physically these days - transport me back 60 yrs in time would solve the mental problem :(.

Thanks John, that's very useful, I'm going to have to get someone to look at the buttons for me, as it's hit or miss whether a couple of them work, so when I do I'll order a screen as well. Hopefully I'll find a local tech who can do it.:)

Looks promising, indeed.

However, I wonder if you removed a shield on the back of your module? The datasheet shows such a shield which is not present in your photo.

Also, note that the reference TCG070WV has different sub models:

It is not clear to me, which model the Promax uses. Differences can be in size, specs, etc.

The difference seems to be the connector location for the flat cable. The AN20 model seems a better match to your picture, apart from the missing shield.

Good luck!

Yes, the shield over the lcd pcb was removed by me for documentation, here's a picture of the module untouched showing the label information that was used for a net search of the module.
Luckily the replacement lcd module is not too over priced and was worth a gamble.
Also, in the modules spec sheet there are two files , one file talks about a 'screen protector' adhesive tape type change used to temp fix it and another file showing recent upgrade info.

Thanks John very useful info.:)

Just a quick update on the lcd screen replacement on my Promax HD Ranger+
Ordered from a UK site, the screen was dispatched and arrived very quickly from the USA this morning though - very quick .
A total cost of £124 delivered up to now, with no demand for any Customs payment before delivery - expecting something though.
Took just under three quarters of an hour to strip Promax down and replace lcd luckily all straight forward.
Powered up with no problems and all working as it should.
The new screen came with a screen protector film which can be fitted or not.
** Screen patterning due to camera / screen interaction - viewed screen normal is perfect.

Thanks John, did it involve soldering etc? Also, did you get a photo of the press button switches mounting, as a couple of mine are on the way out.

No soldering at all Rolf, tools needed are just a medium size philips type screwdriver . the interconnecting multicore ribbon cable that connects the lcd module to the other board is just a push fit with a simple plastic locking action.
Looks a bit of a daunting job to start with but is a fairly simple procedure.
Didn't get any pics of the push button switches, they are a square four pin surface mount type which would require a good skill level to change - i'll have a net search for a pic for reference .

Edit - This kind of thing, from the same source of the new lcd display

@John

Very useful info and a great help to Promax Ranger owners.
It makes it realistic to purchase a working Ranger with a screen defect should any pop up on eBay or other marketplaces.

I've replaced a few of these elsewhere. The trickiest part is getting them off the board - I usually snip the legs and then unsolder each leg individually. Much easier than unsoldering the whole push switch as a unit, unless you have a hot air gun.
