Reception on TV only when second box is active

Universal quad lnb with 2 ports used. One to a Humax receiver and the other direct to a LGTV. Both for Freesat

Hi, I have a universal quad lnb feeding to an LGTV and a Humax receiver (2 of the lnb output ports unused). Freesat channels only available on the TV when the Humax box in another room is switched on and even then the LGTV will usually only show the channel being played on the Humax box. I have checked the LGTV settings and power to lnb says it is active and the Humax box is showing good signal strength. Any ideas would be gratefully appreciated, thank you

Are you using a splitter? You could try connecting the Humax to the cable used by the TV. If that works then it points to an issue with the television.

No splitter. I’ll try switching the box over, thanks

The first part of this sentence usually indicates that the continuity of the antenna cable is not good. So that the power for the LNB must come from the other receiver.
Second part of the sentence is non-conclusive for me; I'm not sure if we can conclude something extra from that, other than my first conclusion.

Thanks for all the help. I switched the TV and Humax box around and the TV works on the other cable and the Humax box doesn’t when on the TV cable. The fault is obviously with the cable which is a pain because it’s embedded in the wall but at least I know. Thanks again

The first things to check then are always the F-connectors.
The core should stick out just very little, and often the connection from the braith with the ground of the F-plug is not good (broken braith wires). [ I hope I used the correct english words. ]

What kind of F-connectors are on the cable? Screw-on types, or compression types?
By the way, sometimes the F-connector has just come loose from the LNB.

Another test (maybe defective LNB output): can you swap the cables at the LNB? Does the problem then stay with the cable, or with the LNB port?

Added: when all this doesn't bring anything: can you see obvious "bends" in the cable, indicating a possible break inside the cable? Sometimes not the whole cable must be repaced or repaired, but only a part.

Thanks again, great suggestions but tried them all and still nothing. I’m guessing I need to replace the cable but massive thanks for all your help

So the problem stayed with the cable; didn't swap to the other receiver?

And what kind of F-connector do you have on your cable?

Yes, the problem remains with the cable. I’m using screw fixed F-connectors. Thanks

Have you unscrewed the F connector from the cable and then put it back on? When it's off looking veeery closely for the tiniest single whisp of metal thread shorting across from the outer shield to the centre?

Usually a cable defect does not occur in the wall, where it is fixed, but at the F-connectors or the free cable ends.

1. Has the cable worked, before? Or was the cable never used, before?

2. You are a new member, I see. (Welcome to the forum! M:W .)
Are you familiar to how a screw-on type of F-connector (which is what you have, when I understand correctly) should be screwed on the cable?

3. If the defect is definitely not in the F-connector-connection, and you cannot see obvious bends or breaks in the cable, I'd first try to just replace the cable ends outside of the wall. Use a barrelconnector to connect the new cable part to the cut-off old wall cable part.
NB A barrel connector is not fully waterproof, so I'd start with the indoors part of the cable end.

Is the property your own or is it part of some communal living? Is there any building or decorating work taking place that might have damaged the wiring somehow?

Thanks again. It’s my property and the cable worked until about a month ago. I’ve checked and changed the F-connectors at both ends with no success. No obvious external damage to the cable. Think I’ve explored all options but I’m very grateful for all the help and suggestions offered
