Newbie Here ROSS HD DVB S2 1201

My Satellite Setup
ROSS HD DVB S2 1201

Hi,
I've been trying to record to a 2TB hard drive but receive "NO DISC DETECTED". I have formatted it to FAT32 but still no joy. I've tried a flash drive with no problems. Can anyone please help me.
Also it occasionally freezes up.

Have you a smaller Hard Drive you can try, just to check out basic function?

I think some Boxes don't like enormous Drives.

As for freezing, that's not unique to the Ross. Sometimes it's best to reboot after a few changes (eg Scans, Adding Satellites/TPs etc.).

Clive Sinclair would be proud that even today's technology is as fickle as the Calculators and Computing devices of yore!
 
PS: Have you Formatted the Drive through a PC, or is there a Format function on the STB?

Thanks for your quick response. I have resolved the issue by formatting the disc using NTFS and all is well.
I'm still finding the receiver freezes regular.
Would you know how I can get the latest software up date for this receiver?
 
Glad you sorted the HDD issue.

No, sorry I don't know about Firmware for the Ross boxes. Not even sure if they look for an Over The Air download or by USB.

But maybe another Member might know (If you wait long enough!)

Edit: On closer examination, what's on offer for the OP seems to be no more than a few tweaks to Default Channel Lists.
 
Yes, having looked again it seems so. I guess you can't expect expansive support.....maybe the picture freezing is a signal problem rather than down to memory or processor...

Hi there! I bagged a Ross DVB-S2 1201 HD Portable Satellite Kit from ALDI a few weeks ago for the knock down price of £19.99!

Been playing with it pointed to 19.2e for some free HD.

In my manual it states:

"5.5 USB Module
A USB Device can be connected to the USB Port located on the Side of the unit. Compatible devices are USB Memory Sticks* and most types of USB HDD* devices.
(*MOST FAT32 and NTFS devices supported up-to 999GB)"

So they recommend up to 1TB. I have tried flash thumb drive (memory stick) and this got corrupted quickly, so then I attached a self-powered 2.5" external drive and this locked after a while. I then attached a full size 320GB external drive with its own power supply and this has worked a treat. It's now full of Space Night and Bob Ross recordings. VLC player plays back the .MTS files a treat.

This set is definitely an improvement from the Tevion kit sold a few years back, especially having a few more metal parts to the porty dish which started to split on the Tevion. It also doesn't seem to have the bad audio sync issue that the Tevion receiver had.

Yes that update is just a channel database file and seems to have been released around the time of the Olympics. I haven't bothered with it yet but it can be downloaded to a USB stick and ingested by the receiver through the system menu.

That is an excellent find for £19.99.

If you check underneath the receiver it may have holes for VESA mounting, some of the generic receivers like it do. If it does they should be able hang vertically or side ways so the cables are at a right angle to gravity.

I wouldn't be surprised if some have holes and some don't. Generic receivers can vary in the case but are normally very similar inside and have similar software.
 
Would be better with a Triax 80cm dish though. ;)

This one has no holes for mounting.

They're rebranded and put in many different shaped boxes all over the place, and similar menus even used on DVB-T2 boxes.

They're fine little receivers I have one on 22W on an 80cm that runs a good few hours each day for Reuters.

I found a 'used once' version today, complete for £30. A Triax 80 won't quite squeeze into the case it comes with.

There was a squawker meter and scouting compass included in the box, which is nice.
