Hi !

Yesterday a satlink 6906 unit was received. When I power ON, the lock light is always ON. I found in YouTube videos about this unit and this light is only on when an antenna is connected and satellite signal detected. In my unit, without antenna, the light is ON... some idea about what is happening ??? Thanks.

Hi All

I'm having the same problem with the new 6906 I bought last week, and so I can't get any signal strength/quality readings for any bird/transponder.

NB: I did PiltdownPaul's s/w upgrade as soon as I got the unit - could that be the cause?

Has anyone found a solution because a G***gle search only seems to throw up Portuguese guides on YouTube - and I don't understand Portuguese?

Also, I have done some tests with my old analogue SMS DS10 satellite s/s meter between the LNB and the 6096, and that does show signals peaking on 19E (etc.)- but a weird thing is that the DS10 shows the opposite LNB polarity voltage signal to that on the 6906 - thus it shows H when the display on the 6906 shows V, and vice-versa! Anyone else seen this/know the cause?

Did it work "out of the box" i.e. from new? I ordered one last year there and it must have had a dry solder or dead tuner or the like as it got no signal all. I returned the unit for a refund at the time.

Hello everyone,

It appears the firmware version that Piltdownpaul has posted (and the version that satlinkmeters.co.uk have available too) is for an earlier hardware revision of the WS-6906 and causes the "Lock" light to be stuck on the newer models. I've reverted my WS-6906 back to the version that it came with and it is working fine again.

I've done a firmware/data dump from my WS-6906 and bundled it with the upgrade program, upgrade guide and user guide. You can download it from here: Dropbox - satlink_6906_original.zip

Note: My firmware/data dump contains one satellite and a fresh channel scan (Astra 2E, 28.2). I highly recommend you do your own firmware/data dump before flashing.

I downloaded the correct file before it was deleted, and I think this is the right one that I used to reset my own 6906 a couple of weeks ago - but can't be sure, so let me know if it does not work

Please can someone else try to download the EU_satlink.bin file by following the link in post #9 because that should take you to my Dropbox Public Folder? - then all you should need to do is to click on the Download button and us the "Save"/"Save As" command to put the .bin file where you want it.

Please then tell me if that does not work, and I will try again to set up access to that file.

@jeallen01

Hmm. I've just tried it and it redirects to my own Dropbox log-in page.

Upon logging in, I get a warning message telling me ..... The folder ‘/Public/EU_satlink.bin’ doesn’t exist.

Same as with our friend.

Can't get a clip of it as the message fades out before I can get my tool out.

@Lazarus

That's a problem I face because I don't actually use Dropbox File Sharing very often/much!

Try this link Dropbox - EU_satlink.bin ?

PS: anyone needing to recover a 6906 using the bin file also needs to read this thread which tells you what kit you need to do the job (notably the USB to Serial Lead AND a special Serial-to-USB converter lead, and I mentioned what I bought in that other thread)

Also, to help to try avoid anyone else loading the wrong bin file on their meters , see the attachment which show pics & descriptions of the button layouts on the Early AND Late model 6906's - DON'T load the wrong Piltdown Pauls "upgrade" bin file on the LATE one!

Sorry - I'll leave this post in-place but I have removed the links until I get knack of copying the links properly - then I 'll put them back in!

Updated: not yet solved the Dropbox problem but been doing some digging and it appears that a LOT of people have been having problems over several years with the "Copy Public Link" function because it simply seems to have disappeared from the dropdown options in the Public folder!!!

I've now deleted the rest of the text here until I get to the bottom of how to fix this problem !
