I've cleared out some of the rubbish on my satlink ws6906 and put European satellites in the menus with latest transponders. I've done a data dump to my pc ,flashed the meter to return it to factory settings and then reloaded my data so i know it works. In most cases i've put the strongest transponder in Tp1 on each satellite. Feel free to message me and i'll send it to you. Email address is obviously my "aim" name with @aol.com added. I cant put the file on here as it wont let me. (approximately 512K bin file)

File uploaded below. http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=52206

Please what kind of file is the resulting extracted file?

Its a "bin" file, Juan

OK, that´´s great thank you.

If you use it,you should find your menus have changed from the standard blue to the red but as you know you can change it in the menu. Most satellites are in order but the last additions havent gone into order,if someone knows how to correct this it would be useful. Maybe i should get a hex/ascii software reader and attempt it.

I am going to give it a try and let you know how I get on. Thank you.

(Make sure you do a data dump before you install,if everything goes downhill at least you can reload your old stuff back on it.)

Please do,i'm trying to get some editor so i can correct the rogue satellites and get them in order but i'm struggling at the moment.

I haven´´t been able to handle the bin file. I can not get past opening the bin file.
I have copied the existing software to keep a backup, but couldn´´t open the bin file.

What I have done is run a lead from the RF out of the FS1 to the RF in of the WS6906. It means that I can search and tune the dish with the FS1 while checking the live image at the same time with the WS6906.

Oh,i downloaded my version from here and unzipped it alright. I only have to select it in the satlink software and switch the ws6906 on and it installs it straight away. But no worries.

Did you use an RS232 or a USB lead?

rs232 to usb lead

Still trying to figure why they used a USB socket an the WS6906 when it needs to connect to an RS232 socket on the computer in a null modem configuration to talk to it.Such hassle to update it.Still reckon its a pure toy and only useful for countries where the sun doesn't shine.British Isles that is I suppose. You need a magnifying glass to see the writing on the screen too.

Yes you dont even use the update section in the firmware. You load up the updater/data dump software they provide on your pc and then switch the ws6906 on and it updates. Never could get it to work with the meter update section. Useful for me ,previously i'd be up a ladder adjusting lnbs with a 15foot cable down to a tv and receiver on a workbench on my drive. God my eyes struggled getting those SNR readings, at least with the ws6906 its cheap and i can sling it round my neck leaving my hands free.

My problem is the conection with the PC. I need to get a RS232: I had been trying to open the file on the PC.
As for the usefulness of the unit itself I agree that the screen is too small to be able to read it specially in bright sunshine.
I now use it in conjunction with the First Strike 1 meter as I said above. I use the FS1 to find the signal and thus get inmediate confirmation of the picture quality on the screen of the WS6906.

Yesterday i couldnt read the screen in direct sunlight , thats true.

thanks for your very useful informations

but could somebody inform me : what is the loader which you use to damp your data and to take a full backup of the unit , and please let me know : from where i can download the original software for my ws6906 .

thanks in advanced for this great forums .

I'll try to locate the loader.bear with me.

Here it is.....its zipped up-use win -zip to extract it....
