Every year they do it - show the colorised (sic) version of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'.

Just for once, couldn't they give us the original, unmessed-up version? They add pastel shades to the negative, ruining the monochrome contrast in the process, so it's no good dropping the colour on the TV - it ends up a wishy-washy grey. Boosting the contrast makes it even worse.

Sorry, I have to have a rant about this, after seeing it in its original form both on TV way before CH5 was invented, and in the cinema many moons ago.
 
I enjoy seeing both, and have both on DVD. Why not treat yourself to a copy of the original on DVD. Should be able to get a copy for under a fiver.
 
Yes, I know it's available on DVD, but showing the tarted up one robs the viewer the chance to see the original, atmospheric quality of the monochrome version.

I see there's also a colorized version of that other perennial favourite 'It's A Wonderful Life'. Leave well alone, please.

Totally agree Llew. Though after a little digging, I found that Frank Capra, it's director saw and approved the colorized version. Personally, I think all movies that were filmed in black and white should be viewed like that.
 
Which is why I have a growing collection of old Humpty Gocart Movies.

B&W is a fantastic medium for film and for still photography (Some people at SWMBO's Camera Club specialise in monochrome to this day).
 
...and I'll like to add. I used to enyoyed the animated version of 'A Christmas Carol' with Ally Sims doing the voice over. But no channel shows it? Channel 4 used to show air it every year, it became a tradition to watch it, but it has not been seen on TV for the past 12+ years. Lord I'd like to watch that film again. I do a search for it every year on Digiguide to no avail. Totally agree with 'Scrooge', that colour version is awful. But I've always prefered the animated version over the acting version :-)

.....and I despise any attempt to colorize Laurel and Hardy movies.
