Ive just managed to get hold of a cheap Sky Italia digital receiver (Amstrad DRX 500) So heres a few thoughts / comments about the reciever. These are first impressions - all the menu options are in Italian and I know very little Italian.....

The basic menu structure is very similar to the UK boxes, which makes it reasonably easy to navigate around

UK remote controls operate the box

Theres no rf connections on it (which is causing me problems as I need to wire it into my distribution system!) I need to shift the tv round in the living room and scart it into the video recorder...... However with a temporary lash up....heres some screengrabs

"Services 4-0-1- Select" works on the Italian box just as well as it does on the UK boxes.

Default frequency is 11880V 27500 3/4

How many scart outputs are there? You could connect an R F modulator to the scart socket.

Interestingly theres a disecq option ("hard wired" for what looks like 13E / 19E)

Now this is very interesting - is this a basic motorized setup?

2 scarts, and whilst yes I could connect an rf modulator I dont have any lying around

I installed a few here for Italian customers. You can normally get around the menus fairly easy.

Interesting to see what happens if you put a 28 feed into it or a motorsied

What has surprised me a bit is that all the screen printing on the front panel is in English!

There must be a way of programming it to display English, failing that a good Italian phrase book will do...

It is the same just has the English one with the software modified because in Italy the antitrust law determined that users with D+ contract could use their unit for n…, so Murcrap )(-redcompany did minor modification to the software to comply and also issued for a very short time N card for it

Do you remember the rumour there was a N cam available?. On the open market!

Ho bad away to the question "does it works on 28.2east" YEA it does ...

But the funny thing again is as for the English stb I can have the Italian (13 east) channels just on the add channel menu sub call and stored on the other channel menu.

You can have the English channels on the

menu call 7'O'-red

But it will not allow to have them on the EPG, I don’t understand same encryption N.. and software in the box, any one suggestions!!!!:-Nooo

Humm I wonder should I go in the loft and get the old gismos and do some patching tests.... soldering etc... Would that be legal to do test on old units recover from the council dumpster?

Wouldn't it be funny if you did a software update on 28e on the box and it downloaded the BskyB software and vice versa?

I know, it's very unlikely, but it'd be funny to see...

Analoguesat do you have AT chip reader??? fancy taking your box to peices??? woudnt mind a dump of that software... have a few donating uk boxes.. posibley set them to motorised??
