And yet despite the time in space, Voyager would take around 70,000 years to reach the next nearest star.
Voyager 1
No spacecraft has gone farther than NASA's Voyager 1. Launched in 1977 to fly by Jupiter and Saturn, Voyager 1 crossed into interstellar space in August 2012.

A signal sent in error left Voyager 2's antenna tilting the wrong way, severing contact with Earth.
In the meantime, Nasa expects the spacecraft laden with science instruments to remain on its planned trajectory through the universe.

All is not lost yet - the spacecrafts resets its antennas every few months to realign them with Earth. The next one is due in October
