Good morning gentlemen from a very wet Mullion Cove.

I have taken to spraying the new galvanised brackets and other bits with WD40.

The last 5 Litre just ran out.

It had lasted a while and came with a refillable spray bottle, so I did not require that part this timer.

The best price found, a lot lower than the local ScrewFix was on eBay.

Delivered by FEDEX for £23,99 : )

I hear it is good for the knees as well LOL

The problem with WD40 is that it soon dries out and could possibly be washed off by the rain over time.

I look at it as being simpler than keep painting, some parts like the mast clamps are hard to paint properly.

I cover the cameras up with plastic bags and try to avoid the cables as much as possible.

Its a bit like washing and waxing the car : )
 
You could use wax, something like Bilt Hamber Dynax UC which sprays on.

Just looked that one up, it has good reviews, may be when the WD40 runs out : )
 
Standard WD40 is a water based lubricant, so will wash off after the next downpour and needs reapplying frequently.

Better a tin of white grease and rub it all over with an old sock on the hand.

(Then you can have a go at the satellite parts :ph34r: )
 
We are so poor Channel Hopper that we wear all our old socks : )

Thought maybe grease would collect all the dust and bits from the near by trees which get evenwhere.

Well I can find lots of other uses for WD40, its handy to have and a lot more cost selective than spray cans this way.

I used to buy Isopropyl Alcohol by the gallon, originally used it for cleaning cine film, but it gradually got consumed for so many other jobs.

It has gone up a lot now so have not replaced it.
 
Chain wax (for motorcycles) used to be a reliable alternative, whatever was left over in the tin on the stove.

(cooled of course)
