Something I recently read on line:

"Dogs prepare you for babies.

Cats prepare you for teenagers. "

Not heard that one before, but sounds "reasonable" from my limited experience of babies and teenagers (apart, that is, from actually being first one and then the other)!
 
A related one:

A dog that you fed for 3 days will remember you in 3 years
A cat that you fed for 3 years will forget you in 3 days
