Hello. Was recently given a UHD-4K-1000 Arris Freesat recorder by a friend who was clearing a relatives home after they had passed.
The box seems to have an issue where upon boot it goes to a grey screen with the Arris logobut goes no further. While on that screen it says 'Initializing network' before switching to 'loading software' before then displaying an error 'Error 4: Could not download the system software. Please check cables on the gateway and restart both the gateway and the STB'.
It will then go no further and just loop that error. I've tried a software reset by holding the power button on boot but other than the resolution dropping to 567p on the reboot it still doesn't get past that error.
While pressing buttons on the remote I found that the home button will display the 'hidden menu' as I've seen it called which has some info and allows you to input and remove WiFi credentials. I also tried the factory reset option on that menu but it just boots to the same error.

I did also see today that pressing the info button loads another system information menu. Other than showing box model, serial number, Mac address, IP address etc... it also has a metadata option that displays a website 'http://arris.g3.freesat.co.uk'.
Under that it says 'DHCP Server' with a 'waiting' message next to it. I've tried setting a static IP for the box on my router and disabling DHCP on my router as well as using my phone as a WiFi hotspot but the DHCP server status remains on waiting.
Leaving it looping through the error long enough sees the Metadata change from the web address to 'USB' but still the error loops.
Now I think maybe the box suffered a software update failure for some reason and that if there was a way of updating/installing the software the box would work but I don't think there is a way to do this is there?
Just thought I'd post this here in case someone has an idea on a fix.

I found a Hidden Menu - Freesat Arris UHD 4K Boxes [March 2025]
I found a Hidden Menu - Freesat Arris UHD 4K Boxes I have been working on the Arris Freesat Branded Boxes for quite a few years now and always wondered if there was a engineers or hidden menu (much like the Humax and Sky boxes) in the box somewhere but never managed to find it, but like most...
