Advice Needed Complex setup - rotor and T90 with a multiswitch

So I can confirm having 3 HD51 receivers with 2 single tuners each.
As far as I understand, I need uncommitted DiSEqC switches (1.1 or 2.1).

Some questions:

1. So, these HD51 have SINGLE tuners, not multiple internal tuners as some FBC VU+ tuners have, do I understand that right? So that you need both tuners to watch one channel, and record another channel (on a different satellite)?

2. Are these HD51 tuners able to switch between four/multiple satellites under the EN50607 (JESS/ "Unicable II") protocol, did you check that? Because if they can handle only EN50494 (Unicable I), they can switch only between 2 satellites, I would think.

3. Can your HD51 tuners combine legacy diseqc switching, and Unicable/JESS switching, did you check that? Not all receivers can do that. That would be needed for your proposed solution: diseqc switch one path to motor+LNB, and other path to your EN50607 multiswitch.
By the way: as the EN50607 has another switching protocol than diseqc, if I'm informed correctly, I don't see that you'd need diseqc x.1 switches. I would think diseqc x.0 would be good enough.
BTW2. diseqc 1.1 switches were very cheap in china some years ago, especially 8/1 switches. Not bad to use those, as you have spare ports if a port has blown (I have that with some of my 8/1 switches...).

So I would think these questions must be answered first, before further planning of what is possible can occur.

Might be that you have to go to a fully legacy setup, or fully EN50607 setup with externally legacy controlled motor position or so.

@ozumo : did you account for the fact that Unicable/JESS uses a brief voltage spike, while giving commands? I don't see that a voltage switch would work, but maybe I'm missing something?

Correct.

Mutant HD51 is not that old. I am pretty sure it handles Unicable II very well. It is, of course, an Enigma2-based receiver running OpenPLi.

I have never had a chance to check that but again I would assume it can easily combine legacy with JESS.
I have a 1.0 DiSEqC switch so when I build the installation I will check that. Hopefully within a week.
My understanding is that 1.1 switches pass commands to cascaded (multi)switches while 1.0/2.0 do not but perhaps I am wrong here.
It also must pass current to the rotor, at least 350 mA.

So, can you check in the receivers menu, how many satellite positions it supports for EN50607? (64 positions would be possible.)

Combining JESS with legacy is not obvious. I remember in the old days, some receivers could, and others could not. In fact, if I remember correctly from discussions that I read, it was stated that Unicable protocol would 'forbid' the use of diseqc protocol.

Cascaded diseqc switches can be used in any order you like, as long as you take into account the "committed" functions of diseqc x.0 (the band-, polarity-, and position-switching of the LNB). So all diseqc commands are passed on further in the cascade (the commands would normally have to be repeated, though, to reach the end of the cascade).
Except in (diseqc) multiswitches that are meant for quatro LNBs; they just give a voltage to feed the LNBs.

A diseqc motor in a cascade can be placed at the LNB side, or at the receiver side of a switch; so the motor current does not HAVE to pass the switch.
A diseqc motor can also be connected in a parallel motor path (split off from the LNB signal path), as opposed to in a cascade. I myself prefer it that way, to rule out possible signal interference inside the motor housing.

So, I'll be curious if your receivers support combining JESS and diseqc. Otherwise you'd have to go all JESS (but then the motor setup would be a challenge), or totally legacy. Or buy other receivers, that can combine....

I’ve had several switches burn out when running motor current through them—specifically the 350mA and 500mA models. If you intend to use switches that carry motor current, make sure to use ones designed for this purpose; they can handle up to 1000mA of current through a single port.

I assume you’re looking to do something like this:
