CrazyCat

What horrible news to read, sad for all of us in this hobby. Condolences to his family.

@satesco Thank you for your explanation.

Let's hope for the best (sorry for any other person with the same name).

I am devastated.

Sad news. I know he was and is a legend in this field. Thoughts are with his family.

I think the information about his death is no correct. I checked his profile on one of the russian-language forums. He was online last night.

I can not check his profile here:

Hello to everyone.

This is Ovidiu from TBS (some of you probably know me).
Crazycat was working closely with us (TBS) on drivers and on various DVB related stuff.
Since 1 september 2025 sadly he fully stopped to reply and answer to any type of messages ( emails , telegram , whatsapp , signal , wechat , LoRa)
We conducted some intels gathering since October 1 2025 through International Red Cross , Ukrainian Red Cross and Russian Red Cross and the replies were not encouraging at all.
For certain reasons i cannot publish exactly the Red Cross reply.
The chance that Evgeny to be alive is very slim .... optimistically under 5%.

Best Regards
Ovi

What if he simply managed to leave the territory of Ukraine before the army was able to mobilize him?
He speaks Russian and could easily hide in the vast Russia until the war is over. In such a hypothesis, he won't tell you where he's hiding.

There will be little official news at this time, the truth will only be known when this conflict is over and as in all wars people will return to their normal lives, only at that moment will the truth be known, unfortunately the invader at the moment does not feel like putting an end to this conflict

Through discussions since the war started in 2022 i offered 2 times shelter and possibility for him and his family of a safe passage to Romania , he did not said yes nor said no ... just " will see ".

4 years of conflict with no sign of an end. Can only hope he's still alive. If hes gone then RIP. Lost Rodney Hewitt back in August 2024. Sat scene would be a different place without them.

Hi Ovidiu, It is so nice to see you here :)
At the same time, what you shared about him doesn’t sound very hopeful. I still want to believe that he’s alive, even if the probability is under 5%.

As a precaution, in case his tools and repository disappear someday, I’ve made a backup. I’ve downloaded all the tools he created under Crazycat, as well as some of the wiki pages.

I also keep hope even on under 5%.
I believe our colleague Davin the main programmer on the drivers also keeping track of the GitHub as he was working closely with Evgeny.
Let's avoid politics and other stuff related to politics away from discussions , we are all technical's and technological addicted people here and talk about tech related stuff and we all love Evgeny and his tremendous work done in this field.

Gentlemen, I am not a moderator (nor do I want to be), but perhaps we should keep this discussion focused and move broader war-related topics to private chat.

This thread is about CrazyCat and his well-being.

CrazyCat contributed streamreader.dll, which remains one of the best modern interfaces for DVB-S/S2/C/T/T2 tuners. Without it, developing reliable applications in this field becomes significantly more difficult, especially considering that Microsoft discontinued BDA development many years ago and no alternative SDK exists.

If he is unable to continue his work, it could create challenges for the future support of TBS tuner cards — unless the source code is preserved and can be maintained by someone capable of continuing his work.

I understand that others may have more insight into this. Until we know more, it would be wise to value and preserve compatible hardware.

That said, none of this matters compared to Evgeny’s life. I sincerely hope he is safe. The lack of communication can have many reasons, and I truly hope the best for him.
