As fans of the police box time travelling doctor will know there is a big anniversary coming up in November. Fot those of you that dont know, it will be 60 years from the first episode going on air. We had 9 recoveries announced back in 2013 for the 50th anniversary so will there be more for the 60th??

Well there are some very interesting rumours going round that another 8 or 9 may have been recovered.

Are they true? Well as stated its currently only a rumour. Until the news is officially released its nothing more than speculation & hearsay

What do I think? Well Im pretty sure any recoveries from the last few years will have been held back for a big announcement for the 60th anniversary. Its fairly well established there are (were?) up to half a dozen missing episodes held in private hands so have negotiations enabled some of these to be recovered??

Did his their PhD ever materialise or has that been lost for the 70th ?
 
That must be a comment from the Jodie Whittacker era. Ive refused to watch any of her stories. No disrespect to Jodie - Im sure shes a fine actress but Im not watching stories where the title character was only chosen for political correctness & to please the woke generation.
 
I viewed a few episiodes, but quickly stopped watching. It wasn't all Jodie's fault, it was the posse, they gave her, instead of an assistant, as they seemed to want to represent every age, nationality, and other criteria, possible.
It was a very poor series, not only the episodes, I saw, but they changed the origin, of the Doctor, as he wasn't born on Galifrey, instead he/she, as they were originally a girl, lost, and found by a Galifreyan scientist, or something like that, who noticed that when she died, she re-generated, and tried to find out how. This was how the time lords got their ability to re-generate. The Doctor now seems to be able to live forever, as there doesn't seem to be a limit, to her re-generations.

I couldn't stand Jodie Whittaker's voice/accent, nor the character they had her portray, but the worst of all was the number of companions, she ended up with.
 
I'll watch the David Tennant specials to see how badly they have wrecked NuWho with all the PC guff & rewriting of the Doctors history, but Im not hopeful fot the next guy. As an established figure in the Doctors history, DT has some clout as to how things should go.

I believe Eccleston attempted to rein in the scripts within the RTD (Rainbow Time Distorted) Who canon, and was cancelled for a number of years. Tennant will have had additions made to any working contract to ensure he stays in line.
 
Its been 2 years since the last post in this thread. HOWEVER there are some VERY strong rumours that one or more episodes have been recovered by the Film is Fabulous organisation. This organisation includes Sue Malden who has long standing links to Dr Who recoveries.

Its likely that there are other lost series recoveries too. - episode(s) of series 1 of The Avengers is being mentioned.

Amazingly some of the rumours circulating could mean that several series are either recovered in their entirity or individual episodes have been found that finish off currently partially complete series.

No guarantees as to how accurate this list is of course but FWIW here is a list from this summer naming possible recoveries

The Tenth Planet ep4 (completes TTP)
The Web of Fear ep3 (completes TWoF)
The Macra Terror - all 4 episodes
Marco Polo - all 7 episodes.
The Dalek Master Plan ep4 (leaves 8 episodes missing)

Just today suggestions have started circulating an initial announcement may be weeks away rather than months.

We live in interesting times for recoveries of classic DW. Because the following canot be disputed. Any collectors who either directly nabbed film cans from the destruction piles whilst working at the BBC in the late 1960's OR who had contacts there at the time to acquire film cans will be well into their 80s now and probably getting very frail if they havent passed away already. Some of these collections certainly consist of hundreds if not thousands of film cans.
 
Interesting news from Film Is Fabulous. They have secured an extensive film collection from a deceased collector after a very complicated legal process. The will of the deceased chap was old & the executors had passed before his death... At least one missing DW episode is known to be in this collection.

DONT expect an announcement in the near future - the films need to be catalogued, preserved, scanned, and agreements with the rights holders made before any annoucements can be made.
 
April 4th to be precise.

Apparently the episodes have only ever been shown once as Australia and New Zealand did not buy the rights to show them citing worries about violence. This means that the BBC never transferred them from tape to film for distribution as it was not thought worthwhile due to the limited value of the other markets. However sometimes the engineers made their own conversions for other purposes and this must be one of those cases.

DMP 2 exists but episodes 5 to 8 are still lost. Peter Purves was interviewed this morning and he bemoaned the fact that most of his appearances in the William Hartnell era are in the "missing" category.
 
Ive been thinking about these DMP recoveries. It seems likely to me that these episodes were recovered a while back & they are not the recoveries supposedly made by FiF in recent weeks. It takes time to catalogue any collection, do any repair & conservation work needed & scan them for future transmission / putting onto iplayer/ dvd release etc.

Soooo maybe there will be more good news at some point???

Hopefully we will get to hear more of the story of this recovery in the near future

DMP7 is almost certainly gone forever - thats the infamous Christmas day episode "Feast of Stephen" which was a story within a story special for Xmas day. It was binned shortly after transmission
 
The titles of the episodes The Nightmare Begins and Devil’s Planet made me think of an epic Hartnell story called The Meedja Moron's Master Plan where the first doctor tracks the MMs across the galaxy before finally defeating their evil plans on Skaro...

The last job today tuning in televisions and I just heard the recently found episodes will be on iPlayer around Easter time.

I suspect its because much as us fans love classic Who the return of a couple of episodes that now make up 5 from 12 episodes in the story arc wouldnt exactly thrill modern audiences. If it had been a couple of eps that completed one or two stories it would have been different - the Beeb could showcase a full story.

Iplayer is mainstream now - its not the preserve of geeks any longer & anyone desperate to watch probably has iplayer access anyway so they can watch the "Whoniverse" on there
