Advice Needed Humax FST29483 set up

Our Humax FST29483 has to ‘set up’ every time I start it. I turn the TV off at night, and the Humax turns off as expected, but as soon as it’s turned back on again, the Humax goes through the whole set up procedure and a message appears on screen saying ‘please wait while we set up your box’, which can sometimes take 3 minutes.
Is this normal? Does it have to do this every time?

No, it doesn't

Try pulling out the HDMI cable before switching off, the TV may have had an app upgrade that disconnects items outside the latest version, in which case they go into deep sleep.
 
I’ll give that a shot and report back but do you mean every time it turn the TV off or just once (or twice) to see if it helps?

No, just try disconnecting the lead once, put both in standby and see if (when you start the Humax with its dedicated remote) the recorder still takes as long to 'set up'.
 
Hi again. Unfortunately this fix didn’t last long and I’m back to square one. I tried it again and ended up losing the Humax from the source list and had to start again, re-adding it etc. Any other ideas please?

You’re not alone with this problem. It can be fixed with an Edid Emulator.

This is how these things work:
You connect them between the STB and your TV.
Now the STB will never know that the TV has been switched off, because it can copy the TV's Edid into its own memory.

This is only an example. Ali has them cheap also for HD if your box is not 4K:

Amazon UK has an EVanlak 4K min for £15. Would you know if this will do the job the same as one from Ali? (Just for ease of return and speed of delivery)
And I can’t find the one you mentioned on Ail

If it doesn't work as expected, be sure to keep the STB in stand-by, don’t switch it off completely by pulling the plug.
This device will not compensate for the loss of settings if the backup battery in your STB is empty/bad.
 
Unfortunately it didn’t work. Not only did the STB still turn off with the device connected (tried it at both ends of the HDMI cable), but we also lost the picture from the STB - yet the sound still came through. Was worth a try. ThanksIMG_5653.webp
 
Would it be worth buying the Aten, £55 version?
I’m wondering if this cheaper version from Ali doesn’t quite live up to scratch.

1. If your STB has an ECO function to switch it off after a certain amount of time, this device will not stop that behaviour. Look for a setting to switch the ECO function off.​
2. If the picture is lost, than this edid emulator does not support HDCP. The PS5 and Xbox can switch HDCP off to record gameplay’s, but your STB cannot.​

I doubt if you need an edid emulator after you solved the eco function.
 
The eco function was already turned off. I’ve returned the EDID emulator for a refund and will look into at least trying the more expensive one.
