My Satellite Setup
Labgear satellite receiver with 60 cms dish
My Location
London
Hi there,
I have a Labgear satellite receiver with a 60cms dish pointed at the Hotbird satellite.
I use it mainly for the Italian Rai channels.
I also get BBC World.
Access to the Rai channels has been intermittent and now I just can't receive RAI at all. But I can get RAI Gulp (Kids' channel) and BBC World News.

I just get a message saying NO SIGNAL
The RAI channels are tuned to Hotbird 6,7 10992 V 27500

Would anyone know what may be wrong? The dish can't have moved because I receive the other channels- right?

Any ideas?

Thanks
Peter

Have you tried the HD versions?
11766 V 299000 DVB-S2 8PSK 3/4

I suspect the Labgear rx doesn't support Nagra.
Just to check if he gets a signa, if the receiver is HD.

Just checked 10992 V 27500 and I get the channels, although the signal seems slightly lower, than others.
Can you please post your signal quality readings, for the channels you do get.

Hotbird 6,7 10992 V 27500 work fine as for now ,no change visible

and 11766 is encrypted any way!!

Even if a channel is encrypted you can still scan them in and check the signal quality readings.
The original poster has a 60cm dish, which should be large enough, for 13E, providing it is aligned correctly, and there are no problems with the LNB, or cabling.
When you have a signal failure you first check the signal quality levels, on other channels, to see if the dish has moved, next you check both polarities, Horizontal, and Vertical, to see if both are working.
If one polarity isn't working it's generally a LNB failure, but could be a receiver problem.

sure of course ,and the italians have the "multi-stream" system...
at least the hotbird sd is really fta except the few US imports they show..
which are anyway similar to ours in France germany... a good system whereby they share their home grown stuff and encrypt the useless stuff

I'm using a 110 cm Triax for Hotbird reception. The transponder (10992 V) used for RAI 1,2 3 SD varies quite a lot in strength at my place too. Sometimes it comes in at around 16 dB but other times below 14 dB. On a small dish this could be the difference between picture and no picture.

Hi everyone, sorry not been back since my original post- been away.
Thanks for your messages but much of what you're saying is way beyond my technical understanding.
My dish is actually oblong shaped, being about 60cms wide but taller- maybe 70cm or 80 cms tall.
Anyway, the 3 RAI channels returned and I've been watching them the last 2 days but this evening, I lost RAI 1 and RAI2, but RAI3 is still on.....
I've attached some pictures to show the signal strength/quality which is over 80%.
I don't understand how no video signal when the quality is so high?
Anyway, here are some pics.
Regards and thanks

Delete the main RAI channels & rescan that frequency. The video pids (identifiers) from the missing ones have probably changed at some point. Some receivers will track the changes - some dont.

Rai encrypts foreign films, sport and disney stuff...
so,when sthg non-Italian is on air, they encrypt it..
.and when the prog ends it s FTA again.
They have been doing this for years, saves them to pay Disney & Hollywood international rights.
So,Rai storia and Rai Scuola are always FTA because they show only Italian produce.

I've had the same problem for some months now. The person who installed my dish says RAI HD is still free, but not SD (that doesn't make sense to me, but), and now he's disappeared. I have no idea how to access this at all! He set it up, and I'm an old lady with no 12-year-olds in her life. The box at the bottom of the screen tells me all is well, but the screen is blank black. I would really appreciate someone talking me through how to get RAI back. Like Peter, I can't do anything with the dish because I watch TV5 French TV. My engineer told me if I want to receive Spanish TV also, I would need another dish. I'm wondering if I need another dish to receive Italian TV; I'd be prepared to do this. Anybody out there?

Sounds to me like your dish is fine however you may have outdated satellite receiver which cannot receive HD channels. If you upgrade your satellite receiver you will be able to receive HD channels.

Does your dish move when you change satellite or is it static?

RAI 1,2,3 are no longer available in SD format only HD.
If you have been able to watch RAI before (in SD) you should be able to get them now too (if your receiver is HD capable).
The only thing is you have to make a search for RAI with these parameters:
11 766 vertical polarisation.
SR 29 900 and FEC 3/4.
Perhaps someone could help you with this?

If you can get RAI there are some Spanish channels on the same satellite.
TVE Internacional Europa and Canal 24 (news) are on:
12 303 vertical polarisation.
SR 27 500 and FEC 3/4.

Hello! RAI is on Hotbird 13°East.
TV5 FBS & Europe are on Astra 1,19°East
so you need a monoblock for 13East&19east which you probably have.
The old low definition RAI (=SD) have stopped, you need High Definition,on the same satellite (hotbird 13°East)
but a different frequency.
This is the present list, you get rai 1,2,3 plus a few others and all RAI radios
click on this link and you ll have the frequencies you need! This comes from Kingofsat

TV5 Europe is on Hotbird 13 E too so if TV5 FBS (which is only on Astra 19,2 E) isn't necessary you can get it all on 13 E.
