Hello,

I have a number of old scaffold poles that I have used over the years however, looking to rip them all out as some are straight others are not and replace with a single pole, so have looked at something like this
3500mm Galvanised Steel Tube 42.4mm Outside Diameter 3.2mm Wall Thickness **.dciron.co.uk/products/brtg4235

Any help would be appriciated and was just going to put it in with a few bags of postcrete as this will be going into the ground where there is clay.

Are you using this for a fixed dish, or motorized?

If using a motor you might want to consider a non penetrating roof mount design, that you can adjust, using bolts, attached to paing slabs, or concrete, to get the pole plumb.
 
A scaffold pole will flex slightly if it is loaded with a dish at a height of 3.5m unless it is in a sheltered area.

What you could do is postcrete the pole in to the ground, and then clamp two other bits of scaffold to it at 90 degree angles, then postcrete those in as well. The higher up they meet the more stable whatever you put on top will be.

Lastly a 2"pole is not the best solution for something that requires a 3' clamping arrangement.
 
I use electrical rigid conduit, any 40 to 50 mm (1.5 to 2 inch) diameter will hold just about any ku band dish up to 1.5 meters in diameter.

Can be found at most electrical or hardware stores.

Anything above 1 inch needs a hydraulic bender to even put a kink in it.

And installing the pole in ground that is consisting of clay would need to be at least a meter deep (or more) and 200 mm in diameter, you would also need to know where your frost line is, if the hole is not deeper then the frost line it will eventually be pushed up over the freeze/thaw cycles.
 
I had a 1.2m dish on a scaffold pole that was secured to the wall with 2 brackets, this was on a bungalow so not that high i couldnt stop the pole from flexing. eventually i changed it for 76mm diameter pole never moved again.
To stiffen the scaffold pole you could weld a lengh of angle iron to it or fix another pole along side with jubilee clips/weld
 
If you concrete it in make sure the concrete slopes AWAY from the pole - ex mod Vipersan had a steel pole rust through & his beloved big dish "Christina" fell over & was damaged - there is a long thread about it about 8 or 9 years ago. Galvanised wont rust so easily but if the layer gets damaged it might still erode.

If a CM get some steam pipe for the post, you won't be able to clamp to a 2" pole.
 
Got it the issue I have is the dish needs to be around 1m from the ground so the pole should be at least 3M for this so need to see how I attach a pole to the Non-Pen mount
 
I was going to take some pictures, of my stand, and 1.2M CM dish/motor, but unfortunately the weather is attrocious.
I have managed to find one, that looks the same, but when I bought mine, it was a lot cheaper than this is listed for.

Got similar problem with the same setup ( CM1.2m motorized)
I actually testing some lnbs, inox arms etc... before final mount near the rooftop. I found a 3" aluminium pipe (3 mm thick ) just for testing... at the moment.
Do you think this pipe will be enough solid for a rooftop mount ?
 
If there is a need to mount an antenna on the ground, then it is easy to make universal support for it. You just need to dig a hole (1m deep and 50cm wide), fill with concrete and add some heavy metal part on top. I have made 2 such mounts. Benefits: different size of pipe can be installed inside, but, most importantly, it is easy to make pipe plumb. IMG_20240911_170347.jpgIMG_20240911_170355.jpg
 
It is a cool idea yes that is the issue for me is getting the pipe plumb as it would set and then no longer plumb.

now it is getting more wet the clay will be softer so hopefully won't be back brakeing going forward.

It's relatively easy to bend 2m of scaffold pole back to vertical.
 
Yaaa. Small dia. pole in the ground below the frost line. Adequate dig-out around it. Three or four footers dug down and 1/2m or so out from the outer perimeter of the dig out. Toss in a few pieces of rebar and tie them in if you so please. Brace the pole with wood supports dead dead plumb.
Do the pour. While you're waiting for it to set. Mix up a batch of mortar and dump down the pipe. Put in some, tamp it in. Repeat.
It won't go anywhere.
 
For a 1.2m channel master you can use a tripod ground stand with 3" pole and anchor it to three concrete kerb stones.
It aint gonna go anywhere, I got a 1.5m dish on a setup like that, aint moved in 20 years.
 
That is the alternitive as have around 9 paving slabs gifted to me which i need to do something with so going to rip out the old installation this weekend

They will be the 80kg ones then, not 40's.
 
On the back of this I have been offered this

76.1mm DIA x 3.0mm wall thickness 3m cut length

Seems like we are on the right track
