Saorview Sound & Epg, But No Picture

2 Panasonic TU-DSB30 digib0xes, FTV cards, quad LNB, Zone 2 dish, & VCR (remember those?)

Hello all,

Using a Dion UK freeview box (from Tesc0) I can get all the Saorview channels at 80-90% strength. I get the sound and the Saorview EPG, but with a completely black screen instead of a picture.

Tried swapping it for another idential Dion freeview box, and get exactly the same result.

A newer UK tv (in the living room, with an integrated digital tuner) gets the Saorview channels without any trouble at all.

Anybody any ideas? :confused:

Best guess is the TV without a picture only has a MPEG-2 tuner.
The other TV looks to have a MPEG-4 tuner so can display the Saorview picture.

UK freeview uses MPEG-2
Saorview uses MPEG-4

Which is why a lot of the older TVs, which work with UK Freeview don't work with ROI Saorview.
 
Re-read you post - you said Freeview box not TV - but the same applies about the MPEG-2 tuner.

I have been receiving Saorview from a relay transmitter (Greenore) and not Clermont Carn since October 1st! Signal is good and I can use digital text and view RTÉ 2 HD.
 
Get yourself a freeview HD receiver this will get saorview from Roi and from divis transmitter in ni.
