I have been thinking about getting a new wireless router.I was thinking about getting a gigabit router.I have a Dlink Nas box.Connected to a gigabit switch that is connected to my WGR 614 Wireless router.Access from elsewhere is a waste of time.I am thinking that the WGR614 is the blockage.I think that it is 10/100 Mbs.
Out of the blue Virgin is upgrading my speed to 30 meg and sending me a superhub on saturday.I know nothing about these superhubs.
I do not need a speed upgrade I only do a bit of browsing forums buying of amazon etc.
But if the super hub has a gigabit switch I will accept it.
What I am trying to say is.Will the superhub, save my having to buy a gigabit router. If not I will refuse it.
Hope that lot makes sense. If it dose not it is because I do not know what I am talking about.:)

Don't have one but it looks as if the superhub has gigabit ethernet ports so it should improve the situation and the WiFi should be quicker.

Take a look at expertreviews.co.uk/wireless-routers/1300756/virgin-media-new-super-hub

The superhub does indeed have Gigabyte ports, although he wireless side of it is totally inadequate.

I use mine in modem only mode just as VM used to be when they just gave you the old Surfboard modems. I just connect it to another wireless router as the superhub is a complete pain in the derriere. The port forwarding on it also leaves a lot to be desired.

That looks a bit worrying. it dose look a bit complicated.
The wireless side dose not matter too much as I only use it with my netbook and tablet. The port forwarding dose.
However it has gigabit ports and is free,so I may as well give it a go.I can always just use the modem as you do.

I use mine in modem mode, as you can only forward one piece of kit and I have more, so bought myself a Netgear router to sit along side it. :) Otherwise the superhub is fine.

I have the Superhub 2 from VM (probably what they'll send you) and I use it in modem mode with an external router.

As mentioned, port forwarding is pants on the SH and SH2, wireless on them can be flakey at times too (well most of the time I've found), they do keep promising firmware updates and keep releasing them but just have a look on the VM forums, people are still complaining that the hubs are rubbish.

The top and bottom of it with the Superhub IMHO is not fit for use, the modem side is spot on but the Netgear router part lets it down.

If they force you to take the Superhub/SH2, get a decent gigabit router that will take the DD-WRT firmware, run the SH/SH2 in modem mode and providing your SNR/power levels are ok you'll be ok
