Horizon HDSM USB Meters X2

If I understand things correctly Horizon have gone. I have two of their HDSM USB meters which have/are working well and now the web site has gone awol, I cannot update these meters for any changes to the satellite listings. These were an easy to use meter at a sensible price, but now their value has decreased significantly. Does anybody have suggestions for replacement easy to use Sat Meters for use in the field, at a sensible price please?

As a side issue, we have been changing tack with our business away from satellite as many of our old customers now use IPTV instead (many of which get sky sports from dodgy suppliers). Is this the start of the end of Sat TV?

Satellite is already in decline with the likes of Netflix and others providing on-demand content. The BBC is pushing iPlayer at every opportunity. More and more live feeds are going over fibre & satellite news gathering is transitioning to 4G & 5G. Ever tighter footprints don't help either :(

Absolutely correct, I have a big drop in SNG satellite newsfeeds over the last few weeks..

The 4G/5G news feeds don't have the sudden drops in bandwidth like they used to either. Sometimes on satellite feeds they even troll you with a LiveU screen at the end instead of a testcard :o
But a large satellite dish does. :D
I asked nicely but the boss said no :'(

it's not only the satellite, in France some politicians would like to put an end to the terrestrial TV...
On Eutelsat 5 ° W, an operator will remove encrypted sports channels in December and offer to go through IP ...
This is to forget that not everyone has access to fiber or 5G or even to DSL.

The future spacex rocket gives ideas.
the possibility of creating satellites with the size of a bus begins to appear with scalable and enormous capacities ...

We may see a bounce or not <_<

Speculation is mounting that Strong (Sky boss) will launch plans to bring a new internet television service (IPTV) to the UK, and unveil a new range of smart TVs to protect its turf from the welter of on-demand video services arriving on British shores.

May be behind a paywall but not if you use blockers

A Horizon meter is, in my opinion, worthless. Especially since they no longer allow updating of the frequency lists.

One could hack/reverse engineer the protocol and format. But honestly, I don't think it is a useful investment of time and effort.

Vitor

The Horizon meter I have here has the option for inputting transponder data on the fly, which can be saved in the memory, though I've not checked if it can be outputted to the PC and then re-introduced as a permanent part of the firmware.

Sky Glass..
It's a smart TV with Sky via IPTV, there are also external boxes called "pucks" for multi room. Not sure if you have to have the television or can get a puck on its own.

edit: They won't sell you a stand alone puck. There's also something called 'fast forward ads' which unsurprisingly costs extra.

Hi, I have some lists with the last TPs horizon used that may still work. I also have some custom ones with correct LO for W/B LNS that you can set your own Tps within meter range. I can let you know what Tps I am using if it helps.
