very interesting idea!! how do you stick the bottom lnb arm after fine tuning?
Just needs some ideas + pieces of this or that from the garage or scrap bin :O).
Found this picture from one of my tests.

What I do, get as good as possible results with the lower arm in original position, then start playing with minimal sliding, sometimes with minimal dish elevation readjusting, back and forth for a while until seemingly nothing more to gain (or bored). Be sure to use good metering, like the krkadoni SignalMeter phone\wifi app as shown a few posts above.

in Carcassonne ,C4 HD started breaking up 3-4 years ago.Just works in SD (Film 4 etc)
Seems the summer solstice is the weakest reception.
Do you still get BBC1,2,3,4?

BBC and ITV 8PSK, that's the problem!

Same dish as yours in Benidorm. Everything fine during the year but in June we struggle at certain times as for example around 7.30pm -08.30 pm where BBC 1 and 2 break up a bit.

If I were you I wouldn't go for a larger dish yet. Try other lnb's and fine tuning, you have the skills, and enjoy!

If you have a famaval dish I wouldn't go for an inverto black ultra, I had a very poor performance. I can't remember the lnb I am using at the moment but if you look in my threads you will find it.

The change from QPSK to 8PSK makes a big difference even if they change the FEC from 5/6 to 3/4 as BBC did.
 
The wiki definitions of QPSK and 8PSK are total Hebrew to me.

So,why is there a problem with these?
Is it a way of saving space on the satellite & paying a lower rent for the BBC?

Kind of like the trend in replacing FM by feeble DAB radio signals,
they cover less,do not provide a better sound & force you to buy a new radio...

Normally yes, I haven’t checked last time with my temporary setup, but next time I have look ! But I can tell you that I can’t received many of 11000mhz transponders on my last test ( at 1 PM, high trees around , not optimal conditions !)

About the background of technology...
There s a thick wall ,it seems,between engeneers who design new ways of broadcasting...and users;so it seems.
When FM started in France (I was a kid) there was a blanket of mystery about how & why it was being rolled out. Citizens were required to admire how new it was...and buy receivers 10x the price of the older ones.
When the Germans just declared it was better for classical music...later just any music,when AM <was for talk or long distance.
PS I lived in Alsace (N-E France/German border),so we got "French" and "German" views ,and reception,on everything!!

Not different dishes but "more" signal in other words many times a bigger dish.

and what is the "utility" of these? transmitting more for less elctricity?
Or a better picture for less people(lower reach of signal)?
 
Do the 8PSK 3/4 FEC transponders vary much in strength? Is a particular one best for getting BBC1 or ITV? I used to receive everything in Valencia city on a 120cm with an inverto ultra (black, annoyingly, bad for heat), guess that wouldn't be possible now?

I m thinking of putting out a black inverto to replace my proesent Scwaiger
1) would that improve BBC reception
2) covering it in white sticky tape/paint it white?
3) why do they paint them black in the 1st place?

The TP:s used by BBC One London (10818 V) and BBC Two (10847 V) actually are among the strongest on the UK beam here.

As for ITV 1 in HD 12363 V and 12168 V both using FEC 2/3 are the best but much weaker than BBC.
ITV 2 HD is on the weakest of all transponders on the UK beam (11053 H).
ITV 3 HD (11097 V) and ITV 4 HD as well as ITV Be HD (11068 V) are the strongest of the ITV:s in HD.

I think the higher frequencies are weaker in the UK too, hence the more robust 2/3 FEC vs 3/4
I remember 11053H was the only transponder that would sometimes have problems (this is 6+ years ago)

seems to be marketing the premium brand - just daft. I thought about painting it. In fairness never failed, probably still works
 
Signal has increased since 2 or 3 days ago, good news!
To be honest, this year I only had a few break ups last week and the beginning of this one.

"4wd" check today
 
What would be a "German" view of 8 PSK/QSPK?
A simple look at the transponders in use at 19 East would suggest that German broadcasters have absolutely no issues using 8PSK modulation via satellite for HD (and some SD) broadcasts.

It is simply a case that whoever is in charge of transmission capacity will evaluate the best method of delivering a balance of data capacity for channels verses the size of satellite dish required for reception from a given satellite.
To give a recent example, the transponder used by High View for their channels that were launched on 19 East earlier this year use 8PSK with an FEC of 3/4 for the single transponder they are carried. They're presuming that this will be adequate in terms of reception for the average German satellite TV viewer using (for example) a 60cm fixed satellite dish pointed at 19 East.
