Dishpointer website

I have been trying to setup a dish with Dishpointer. Set the X in the exact position of the house, chose 0.8w sat, yet its not giving the correct direction. I found this much much easier with my tablet. Spot on.

I thought I would test the available dish positioning calculators. I theory it is pure mathematics, calculating the position of a satellite 22,000 miles above a point on the equator and sure enough most of them give similar (not the same) results. My one concern is that everybody seems to use DISHPOINTER.COM as the default (possible because they have their SEO sorted out) but this is the one site that varies greatly on the skew angle calculation.

See attached.

Who is right?

DISHPOINTER.COM .... but this is the one site that varies greatly on the skew angle calculation.

It takes the preskew of 7.5 degrees of the astra satellites into account, which is correct. (Satlex does this also.)
Alas, it does that also on the multifeed skew calculations, IIRC, where the preskew should NOT be taken into account.
(Multifeed skew calculation is in fact still more complicated than that, I believe. Maybe the Cahors Big Bisat calculator is the most accurate for that, I'm not sure yet, as I haven't been able to check calculations and outcomes of that...)

I don't know of an internet calculator, that takes the Eutelsat satellites preskew of 3.535 degrees into account.
In fact it seems to be a little known fact, that they also have a preskew, but Eutelsat reported it themselves.

In the UK most of the satellites on the European part of the arc are so strong it doesnt matter if the skew is only roughly set, setting the lnb to "7 oclock" or thereabouts when facing the dish and setting for the east birds is more than near enough.

Was completely unaware so really appreciate the info. Did some trials with different LNB's and the Dishpointer seemed more accurate for the basic Freesat feed.
Cheers

The Android app appears no longer downloadable. Maybe the Apple one too.

Still available on iOS

Although I use Satellite Pointer (free) and SatFinder NG (£3.99)

Thanks. Although this has raised more questions than I wanted to ask, it's super helpful.

There is also USALS protocoll on almost every receiver and i found coordinates on STAB website.

Is Dishpointer no longer free?
Can a member advise if there is an alternative.

If you nees an alternatibe just write Dishpointer similar sites and some will be rewealed.

I reached the web site but the information required is not shown.I require the information to set up a Polar Mount for a 1.2metre ku dish.
I down loaded the Dish pointer App on my mobile phone for one of the satellites on the Clark belt with its foot print over South Africa.I am aware that the skew must be on" 0" however ,what information can I use to track those satellites on the Clark belt that has a footprint over South Africa.

Did you enter your location, at the left?
Did you choose "motorized systems", "true south/true north" (or a specific H-H motor type) at the right?

Otherwise, can you share a picture of what appears on your screen? Then maybe we can understand what is the issue.
