For the Freesat box the helpline have confirmed there is no longer an option to stop the box powering down:
4:51:42) XXXX: Hello. Every day that I turn on my Freesat+ box I get the message, 'We are setting up your dish. This may take a short while.'
I think this started happening after a software update and I used to be able to turn it off in a power setting. Is there a way to just turn it on and start watching TV right away, like with other boxes?
(14:51:42) Ben: Hi XXXX, Thank you for contacting viewer support. You're speaking to Ben.
(14:51:50) XXXX: Hello!
(14:53:10) Ben: I know the message your referring to. This has actually been present on the box and appears when the software has finished loading but the dish hasn't finished being powered up and sends back a signal.
I think the reason you've started seeing this more since the update is that the software loads a little faster than before, where as the dish is still taking roughly the same time.
(14:54:32) Ben: So the situation where the message would be displayed occurs more often.
(14:54:40) Ben: Rather than it's necessarily taking longer to start up overall.
(14:54:44) XXXX: Why is it taking so long to power-up and provide a TV signal? Other sat boxes just go straight to TV
(14:55:16) XXXX: For example, my old Sky+ box would go straight from standby to showing a tv picture
(14:55:29) XXXX: Is that something a freesat box can do?
(14:56:11) Ben: Did it go actually straight on though? Or did it show a Sky Logo for however long until it was ready?
(14:56:21) Ben: I ask because that may be the only difference.
(14:56:34) Ben: Rather than seeing a logo being shown for a longer time you're seeing this "please wait" message instead.
(14:57:32) XXXX: Would see a Sky logo when turning the box on for the first time. But not just coming off standby. Would go straight to TV.
(14:58:16) XXXX: It's a power-saving thing, is it?
(14:58:25) Ben: The Sky box likely kept itself powered up in the background in that case.
(14:58:28) Ben: So yes exactly.
(14:58:47) Ben: It would only power up your dish in standby if you had a recording coming up.
(14:58:54) XXXX: Any option to keep it powered up?
(14:59:00) Ben: No there isn't.
(15:00:32) Ben: Was there anything else I can help with?
