Missing Channel

Hi all.

New to this forum.

I recently ditched Sky Stream as we were having terrible pixelating issues.
Before going to Sky I had a Humax Foxsat that finally packed in after12 years!

I’ve now bought a Freesat UHD-4X-2000. The setting up was reasonably easy but initially I couldn’t get Sky News Channel 202. Started again and it came on with everything else last night.

Tried to watch this morning and every channel is there - except 202 Sky News!
The screen has a warning triangle and says No Stream No Picture Available
Has anyone on the forum had this experience and if so how did you solve it.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sky News is on the Europe beam which is generally weaker than those on UK beams, it may indicate the dish alignment could be improved. It could also be an LNB or cabling/connector problem. Do you lose other channels when it rains?

Hi there
Thanks for your reply. When I tried it last night at around 10.00pm the Sky channel came on! No problem.

I’ve just tried it now and it’s off again. It only happens on Sky channels.

My guess is the LNB is suffering in the sunshine causing the performance to degrade during the day. If you just want to watch Sky News you could try adding the Irish version (identical to the UK version bar the adverts) in non-Freesat mode which I believe is accessed through the System Settings menu.

1/2 or lower - or should I say higher - means improved coverage in poor weather at Ku frequencies.

(Nothing like the ability to receive in analogue though)
 
Absolute mystery.

I’ve set the position of the dish. Perfect picture - signal and quality tested - nearly 100%.

Put Sky News on at 9.00am - worked perfectly.

As temperature outside as warmed up we’ve now lost all the Sky channels AGAIN.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

There may be water in the LNB, after a few years the white caps can degrade and crack.

Yes, get a new LNB to rule it out. A nice and easy change. Also, try to refit the F connectors - the rubber seals can degrade and let water in. The cable itself could also be faulty but the daily variation seems odd.

It's the magic of QPSK/DVB-S2 . With this "low" FEC rate the min C/N level for QEF reception is even better than 8PSK 2/3 FEC.

On topic
I think the Topic Starter is suffering from high frequency loss on his connection coax to the disc location.
The IF frequency is over 2 GHz, which could explain the weak reception for only that transponder.

The water inside will evaporate and creep around as the temperatures rise.

Another quick fix on the right type of dish is to turn the LNB around 180 degrees and the circuitry then gets a chance to dry out.

about the second part of my message
I did a quick look-up for the TP freq of Sky News but did not find it on Lyngsat.
So I checked my own channel list and found it. But I forgot to check the satellite.
I checked again and It appears to be Astra 1. Mea culpa.

To make it up to you I give you folks my "minimal C/N" document, I wrote some years ago.
It gives you an overview of the minimal required C/N ratio for all known modcods.
