The trip out to the local National Trust venue today turned into a forage.

Normaly I have Blackbirds, tits, Sparrows, Robins,on the feeders.
Today I got something different I don't know what it is.

If the brown cap on the bottom right pic isn't an illusion, it's a Tree Sparrow (As opposed to yer actual House Sparrow)

It looks like a House Sparrow, but with a little extra black on the breast.

install the merlin bird id app and record the audio while they make a racket. it will id all the birds the mic can pick up.

Our wonderfully disreputable succulent has produced a flower again. In fact there are four flowers visible in the photo with another two just starting to bud.


A close-up of the flower shows a drop of nectar trickling down. As you would expect it is deliciously sweet.


I posted about the plant back in 2020 when there were just three flowers. I must be doing something right!

Yes, we caught another one a couple of days ago as well.

On another subject, in fact the title of the thread. Every year, or two, or three, or more, our disreputable cactus/succulent produces a single, beautiful red flower. This year I noticed not one flower but two flowers and they were on the same leaf? Brilliant I thought and then a few days later I noticed a third flower. They're not fully out yet but here they are at the moment.

Incidentally I can now give the plant a name. It is a variety of a Dragon Fruit plant.

We rented a house with a pond on the outskirts of Montmorillon last year and were blessed with a Night Heron and ....... Loads of Coypu!

They're the ones with orange teeth, aren't they? I remember seeing flattened ones by the side of the road when we stayed on the Isle d'Oléron 35 years ago.

Went to Brockholes the local nature reserve last weekend and managed to capture this Heron in flight

Yes Paul, very orange. This one ended up dead, next to this laundry pond there was a stream which aside from one pool had dried up and some crop fertiliser had "managed to seep into it", poisoning whatever swam in it. Also one of the young of another one ended up being snapped up and crunched whole by my sister's Beauceron on a stream side walk, who'd grabbed it before I had a chance to adjust the lead length.

We used to have quite a large population over here, but they were eradicated in two large culls during the 60s and finally the 80s, they had been damaging canal and river banks in Norolk and causing problems with flooding.

This tatty little Blue Tit has been in and out of the Bird Hut for some time now. He must have young. It must be an he because a female would not get out of the nest looking like that.

Poor little Bluetit, found it in the nest box yesterday when up the ladder and it was the one that got abandoned in the nest.
