A Red Rocket Quad is also available ...might be worth a try.??...and for some strange reason the x4 is cheaper than the single on Amazon De

The f connection is similar to the Smart Titanium single LNB. The Vision tool is useful for getting it on and also for pushing f connectors onto the cable. No more sore fingers. I find putting most of the self amalgamating tape on first then screwing it in then putting a few inches on the top bit over the nut makes the process slightly easier o_O but it is still very fiddly due to the lip.


I fired up the Comag to see what quality 11046H was on the LH 1m using a Black Ultra LNB in prime focus so its better than your offset. Its fairly strong here at 27% which means it might go off briefly in torrential rain. I would expect similar on an 80cm with a reasonable rain margin.

I suspect your Black Ultra is locking it perfectly well so it's a bit worrying that you are getting no lock on the Red Rocket.

It is clearly not in the same league as the Black Ultra but would be fine for the strong satellites.

In keeping with the theme of multi-LNB set ups you might consider testing the slim Best Quad LNB instead of the Opticum White Quad.

Or maybe the laid down gauntlet will have to be picked up. The body of the Opticum Quad seems quite slim so it would be fine for most multi-LNB uses where the cap is not too big.

Thanks for the close up of the lighthouse. :) It looks very impressive. The ink stamp gives it character. I can't help thinking I saw it in an old film The Riddle of the Sands which was on a few years ago but it might just be my dodgy memory.
 
Pete, the Inverto Black Ultra single has 70mm neck between the feed horn and the rear, how long is the neck before your met with the rear of it?

From the flat face of the feed horn to the rear, it's 90mm.

I'll attach a photo of the F connector. You'll see it's flush with that shroud and while a Vision tool will help it's still very fiddly.

The Black Ultra is locking that transponder fine, I think it helps that the VU+ has quite a sensitive tuner as well.

Yes, I think the gauntlet will be picked up at some point, not just yet, though maybe before Xmas LOL.
 
I am glad you posted that photo because that is worse than I expected.

It's worse than some diseqc motors which are similar but not as recessed. It would take a hell of an effort to get self amalgamating tape in there. Obviously I can't skimp on self amalgamating tape here or the inevitable would happen.

The twin, quad and quattro are all better with a pull down shroud and much easier to access.

Anyhow, that's the Christmas present to self sorted. :-hbbounce

Yesterday I found it much easier to hold the F connecter and rotate the LNB onto it, then mount it in the holder. By the way all my fixed dishes are accessible either at ground level or by using a small two rung stepladder.
 
Despite my misgivings as to whether anything can compete with a Black Ultra I've been sufficiently intrigued by the claims for an Opticum Quad (white one not RR) to order one today. Amazon.fr wanted €40 for one (free delivery) while Amazon.de was only €21 (incl delivery). So one is winging it's way to me from Germany and may be here by Saturday. I'll do some comparison tests as before but primarily using my motorised dish.....I guess another 'testing' thread is in order...

I find that quite often when I try to order something from Amazon DE because it's cheaper than on Amazon FR, it prevents me from doing so "cannot deliver to this address" or somesuch :(
