Technomate

personally I would recommend the tm5402 hd mk3 I think they are a good receiver with a good tuner and fast blindscan !!!

to be honest a lot of members on here have them also !!

5402 M3 - decent enough receiver but avoid it if you want to discriminate between SCPC channels on close frequencies regularly - it does a very poor job of separating them and just gives you the stronger channel.

For normal use its good though

Yes the TM5402HD M3 is a good receiver to start with + a 80 to 100cm motorised dish will give you several thousand fta tv channels from all over Europe.

I am more the pleased with my TM 5402 M3 as well. It has an extremely fast blind scan, tuner sensitivity is up there also and it's ** compatible if you have keys.

William,

Does the TM-5502 do any better that the TM-5402 series at distinguishing between SCPC feeds when the frequencies are close together? I would be grateful for your feedback on this point and any other points of merit that the TM-5502 has for feed hunting.

I have both the M1 and M3 model of the TM-5402 and both are poor at resolving SCPC feeds when the frequencies are close together. I also have a TM-6902 but have not tested this yet on SCPC close proximity frequency feeds.

I don't suppose we will ever get the functionality in a consumer grade receiver to be able to set the frequency scan bandwidth to prevent interference from other close proximity frequencies. This functionality is available in commercial grade receivers such as Tandberg where the frequency bandwidth can be narrowed to a tight range around the precise frequency.

The TM5502HD does much better than any other Blind Scan receiver not only can it find all SCPC it also finds all transponders with symbol rates from 800 to 45,000

The 5502HD has several features not present on other receivers,

Low symbol rates catchment is 2nd to none with the 5502HD

Useful features include deleting all transponders on any satellite especially useful with feed satellites such as 10 east.7 east,8 west ect when active transponders change every day,

Go to advanced search, then press ok on transponders, now the Yellow button to delete all transponders on that satellite,
Then exit exit & go to Blind Scan to re-scan the satellite,

I spent 3 months giving feedback to TM to get this receiver as good as it is now yes they do listen :)

William,

Thank you for your reply.

I have another few questions if you can please bear with me?

1. What is the file format for the channel list in the TM-5502?
Is it CNDF or NDF and can it be downloaded from the receiver and edited in a channel editor such as the Clarke-Tech editor?
I remember that Technomate produced some receivers with unfriendly file formats that could not be edited by the usual channel editors.

2. Is the TM-5502 a non Linux receiver?

3. Lastly, I understand that Technomate have a new receiver in the pipeline that might contain new features for feed hunters.
Do you think I would be better off waiting for the launch of the new receiver or get a TM-5502 now?

E3B @ 3.1 east
Some of the transponders found with the Blind Scan 11450 to 11700 @ 4 MHz

The TM5502HD can find SCPC transponders as close as 2 to 3MHz

Hi moonbase
1/The file format is TBN on the TM5502HD (There is a channel editor but it is not very good I do all my editing on the receiver)
2/Yes the TM5502HD is a non Linux receiver,
3/As the new receiver is still in the development stage pending release I would go for the TM5502HD now as they have stopped making them & when the stock expires that will be it as they sell more TM5402HD M3 for the mass market.

Those menus and details are identical to my tm 5302. The blind scan on the 5302 is brutal but tuner sensitivity at its best.

Yes the menu's on the 5302HD & 5502HD are identical the TM8000 has the same menu's but I have never tested this one,
I have the 1st TM5302HD that came out & it has the same size case as the TM5502HD then they brought out the slim version of the TM5302HD about 1/2 the size I prefer original 5302HD & the 5502HD .

William,

Thank you again for your feedback.

The TBN file format is a deal breaker for me, I have previously owned both the TM-5302 and the TM-8000 and got rid of both of them due to the file format of the channel list. I need to be able to easily transfer channels between different makes of receiver such as a Dr HD F15 and Technomate models. The CNDF or NDF file format is an important factor for this to work. Its a shame as the TM-5502 looks to be a good feed hunting receiver.

The TM5502HD is not just good it is the best receiver atm for Feed Hunting & I have tried & tested a lot of satellite receivers over the last 20 years,
Linux is still disappointing to me as it is capable of so much more for the Feed Hunter than the current batch,:(

Non Linux has come a long way from the TM1500CI Super+ SD & Manhattan Plaza XT :)
I thought the TM6900HD had done it but as mentioned here in several threads the overwrite error on SCPC is a problem for these receivers The SpiderboxHD9000 could have been much better but the support vanished after a couple of years,:(

The TM5402HD M1 & M2 /Dr HD D15 & F15 + endless clones of the original Hubtech all are stuck with the 45,000 S/R error that confuses the receiver when a SCPC low symbol rate is found & it attributes 45,000 = dead Tp plus it also has the overwrite error on SCPC,

Then along came the TM5402HD M3 that is in fact a TM-F3/5 Mk-2 similar to the DrHD F16 & various other clones this receiver adds non existent transponders by the hundreds to the data base due to a Network Scan error in the software that means it is always selected even if you switch it off + the Blind Scan is too fast & misses 10 to 30% of active transponders,

So the TM5502HD & TM5302HD are probably the only reliable feed hunting satellite receivers to have emerged without Data Base errors or Blind Scan errors :)

William,

One last set of questions if I may?

Can the TM-5502 be patched for PVu and also to accept BISS codes?

Thx
