HI ALL

Just giving you all an update. I have changed the HDD in the Samsung box using a 3.5 inch caddy and fitting a 2.5 inch 750gb drive. All is functioning great! I'm not re-subbing to Sky or anything like that, but will be putting a Sky PVR back in the cabinet and recording all my FTA channels again. Can't believe how much quieter the box is now without a full-size drive clicking and whirring away.

A success! :D:D:D:D

Excellent :)

Dont do too much live pause on it or you might quickly run through the write lifespan of the device.

Don't use it, AS! Just use the machine as a normal recorder/player only. No worries. The drive I used is an Hitachi HGST 2.5 inch.

Is there something in the options to turn the live pause off as I thought it constantly buffered?

Yes, there is and it's one of the first things I did when I got a box as I didn't like the idea of the hard drive churning away just on the off chance I might want to rewind live TV. I have yet to miss that feature, especially with the days of online catch up if I do miss something.

Must remember to turn that feature off. :)

I really like that instant replay feature. Whenever my wife or I miss something said we quite frequently jump back 30 seconds to hear it again. A very useful feature IMHO.

I've switched off the live pause function, too.

I have the Samsung box back in the cabinet and I can honestly say it works exactly the same as a full size HDD, but much more quiet. I would say that if anyone is planning to do this....GO FOR IT. I recommend using a Hitachi HGST 2.5 inch HDD. :D

I used a 750gb drive, which means that 140gb is locked off for Sky services (not needed) which gives me 610gb for FTA recording. Happy Days.
